It`s September, and it`s the time of year when you can see
the beautiful full moon.
Have you ever heard of the Rabbit in the Moon?
It`s a Japanese fairy tale that I`d like to share today.
今日はお月見うさぎの由来について英語でご紹介したいと思います。
簡単な英語ですので、よかったらお子様にお読みくださいね。
Once upon a time,
there was the Old Man of the Moon.
One night, he looked down to earth where he saw a rabbit, a monkey, and a fox.
“I wonder which one is the nicest of them all.”
The Old Man of the Moon said and changed himself as the Beggar.
He decided to go to the forest and see.
“Please help me. I`m hungry.” said the Beggar.
The animals felt bad for the Beggar and decided to look for some food.
The monkey
brought back a lot of fruit.
The fox
brought back a big fish for the Beggar.
But the rabbit
came back with nothing.
He cried to the monkey asking to start a big fire.
Just when the fire had started, he said to the Beggar.
“I`m sorry. I don`t have anything to give to you. I will put myself in this fire so that you can eat me.”
The rabbit was so kind and was about to jump into the fire.
Just then, the Beggar changed back into the Old Man of the Moon and said to the rabbit.
“Stop Mr. Rabbit. You should never do anything to hurt yourself.
You are so kind that I will take you home to live with me.”
Then, the Old Man of the Moon carried the rabbit in his arms up to the moon.
And they lived happily ever after. THE END.
Next time you see a full moon, try to see if you can find the rabbit still in the Moon!
