So this happened yesterday. This is the second time something like this happens on a Friday, I guess that's not surprising though.

Now then, you remember how a while ago I got myself a graphic tablet? Yeah, so I've been using it mainly for taking notes for lectures. However, yesterday, something happened.

I was following this lecture on how the internet works (actually we'd gotten past that long ago but whatever), and, well, the night before I didn't sleep for a long time, meaning I was tired. It's been like that for a few nights in a row now, and the fatigue was seriously accumulating. This translated into the fact that little me was very unfocused, and his mind was going anywhere it wanted. Now, ever since I got that graphic tablet, a certain idea popped into my mind: I wanted to use it for what it's built for, and that's not taking notes. And so, in the midst of the lecture, i simply started looking up free softwares to draw. And then I found this article that listed a few of them, and the software that caught my eye was one called Krita. With complete disregard towards whatever was being taught on the lecture (it was optional stuff anyway), I installed Krita. In the mean time I read the user guide and the basics of digital art while using the lecture as background music. There was a lot of interesting stuff on the methods used and techniques, it was a nice read. There was even this video of a guy speed painting with 1h, and Jesus what a painting, it depicted this little girl, a witch, happily creating a potion in her house and throwing ingredients in her cauldron while her cat was watching. Unfortunately I had other stuff to do by the time I finished installing it, so I couldn't use my new toy (´。_。`)

And I had a looot of stuff to do. Now, it's evening, 23pm, and I'm dead tired. Want sleep. Need sleep.

But before I go, I wanted to give it a try. So I opened it, and wow wow, what's all those buttons on the screen? What are they for? Wait, how do you erase? Nope, I needed to watch a tutorial first. So off to YouTube we go... I watched a video and, it was actually easy to understand how to do what now. So, let's start drawing! Yayyyyyy ヾ(≧▽≦)o

What do we draw? Ummm...

Actually, how do we draw? Ummmmmm.... Umm? Dunno.

Fortunately, the video I watched and the tutorials I read gave me some hints, but the biggest help of them all was the speed painting video, the one depicting the little sorceress. I looked at it over and over, and there's actually a lot of stuff to learn there for a complete beginner like me, even though it's only 2mn41s long and it's all just drawing. I can see that he started from making a background with all the silhouettes but without adding details. Then he slowly but surely proceeded to smooth over that background and aadding details. And he did it without using extra useful tools like layers. So, I decided to learn from him since I liked his style. Although, I did decide that I would use layers and other stuff too. Now, all that was left was to get an idea of what to draw.

So, the image that first came to mind was a simple painting of a cliff facing the sea. Simple enough, three main background colours: one for the cliff, one the sea and one for the sky. The first thing to do was to create their silhouettes. Easy, right? Not for me. And it really doesn't help that I am a perfectionnist. Plus, it was already something like midnight. And yet, I didn't really feel tired. It was the same as that time I wrote from midnight 'till four a.m., I was having fun. It really was a lot of fun, this time I'm creating a new world in a different way. I'm actually drawing that world. The final image also changed in my mind. Sure, it's my very first canvas so it really is just a way to gain experience, but it would be nice if it looks cool too. The newimage I had was that of a sstormy sea, grey clouds and possibly rain, although I have yet to decide on that. I only finished colouring the sea, it was a lot more difficult than I expected, and this is just the blurry background phase. In fact I'm not sure the sea's colour is as dark as I wanted it to be, so I'll have to check that. It really is a lot of fun drawing.

Ugh... where did it all go so off course? Why am I in Computer Science?

Oh well, this is what I have, and maybe I wouldn't cherish world creation so much if the opportunities to do weren't so precious.

In any case, wow, that's a lot of text. I don't know if I'll be able to post the drawing once I finish it, but at least I'll try. If it's presentable.

Well then, see ya ヾ(•ω•`)o
