When I started working right after graduation from junior college,
I hated to serve tea at the office as a part of my job.
But then, I changed my perspective.
Rather than complaining, I decided to prove myself that I am a capable staff member.
Then, naturally, they would expect me to deal with more important work than serving tea.
I did a good job, obviously.
It was long time ago.
Today, I was making some tea for the guest who was waiting for my boss to arrive.
Then, a lady next door stopped by, and asked me, "Why do you have to do this?"
She's got high educational background, and is not immune to Japanese society.
I said, "This is my policy, that if I can do these trifle works right, then
I can do more important work. It's the way to show my respect to the guests,
and so, I do not care doing this."
Then she said, "I do!"
Maybe I've changed.
I can't leave our guests alone in a room, not attended.
If I served tea, and if they felt being welcomed,
that should have a positive effect on our business that follows.
And I accept it as a part of my job, as an important part of my job.
