I was still on my bed when a message came in: "I'm boarding for Semarang from Singapore". It was from the French student who would came to my city for a research. I only had 2 hours before the plane landed. So I hurrily took a bath and went to the airport. It was in the morning, raining, and traffic jam was everywhere.
Thirty minutes before the landing-schedule, I already arrived at the airport. Had a quick breakfast and coffee at the Dunkin Donuts, while answering a couple emails. I had to wait another 30 minutes before Clement, that guy's name, came out from the exit gate.
He's a nice guy. Typical western youngster who would say everything directly. He's polite, but not overly polite, which is good for me who couldn't stand somebody who is too polite. And he seemed to know Indonesia pretty much. He even learned some Bahasa before coming. After taking him to meet some of my seniors, I took him to join the lunch party of my department. Well, it was a farewell party for my senior, and I was the host of the party. So while I couldn't leave either the party and my duty of taking care Clement, I just took him in. Everybody's happy, so it wasn't a problem, I supposed.
After lunch we went to the new apartment where he will stay for the next 5 months. The owners were great people, and they speak English well. I think it's good for him. Then, we went to shop and find him a new SIM card for his mobile phone. Everything went well. I hope it would be a good start for him.
