Fall is almost upon us, and fall fashion is hitting stores as the season transitions. Students are getting excited about breaking out their warmer clothes.

Elizabeth Minor, studio fine arts senior, is ready to break out her sweaters and layering pieces.

“Getting to layer things again and wearing longer sleeves is exciting,” Minor said. “I’m also kind of excited about getting to wear some of my cute, fun blazers that are a little heavier. Maybe breaking out a pair of boots I haven’t worn in a while will be cool.”

Marketing junior Chigozie Izuogu said light layers in men’s fashion are great for Texas fall weather.

“You don’t want to wear big jackets for fall,” Izuogu said. “They’re not really essential here. Don’t put on too many layers, but wear a simple fleece jacket or a scarf you can take off easily.”

Interdisciplinary studies senior Kiera Wallace is also into layering her outfits similarly for the fall.

“I’m into long sweaters, leggings and knee-high boots for fall,” Wallace. “That’s my favorite thing to wear in the fall.”

Minor said there are fall boots for every occasion.

“You’ve got the high-heeled boot for when you want to dress up,” Minor said. “I have two pairs of practical calf boots that go with everything. They’re a great way to dress up an outfit.”

Izuogu said he loves wearing Chelsea boots for the fall, along with some other trends.

“Something that’s really popular are Chelsea boots because no one wants to wear regular boots anymore,” Izuogo said. “Since it’s fall, you can wear ripped jeans and sweaters. You can get more tapered jeans rather than just the boot cut.”

Jazzy Jems is a local fashion boutique and owner Teenya Blanchard said some trends that will be in season are a mix of deep colors and fun textures.

“Some big trends we’re seeing are very boho-chic,” Blanchard said. “Fringe is on booties, jackets and blouses. Wide-legged pants are on trend right now, as well as denim dresses.”

Students should be on the lookout for denim, because it’s a bigger trend this year.

“It’s very much back to the ’70s,” Blanchard said.

Criminal justice junior Kashyra Thompson loves to wear deeper hues in the fall that aren’t usually available other times of the year.

“During the fall I love to wear more burgundy and brown,” Thompson said. “I look forward to being able to show off my scarves, cute sweatshirts, jeans and the leggings that are made of thicker material.”

Blanchard said the colors for fall are great and suit every skin tone.

“Based on what your skin tone is you can do a lot. Your berry colors, such as maroon, burgundy, and rust are pretty big. Teal blues are pretty big as well.”

There’s a whole palette of greens to pull from, Blanchard said, varying from hunter green to olive green to teal greens and blues. Izuogu said he also loves the deep colors for men’s fall fashion.

“I like all the dark colors for fall,” Izuogo said. “Maroon, mustard or deep greens. Not essentially black because winter is more black, but for fall, the deep, dark colors are cute.”

As far as accessories and jewelry go, longer necklaces are in this coming season, Blanchard said.

“You’re going to see a lot of natural stones and leather jewelry,” Blanchard said. “Blanket scarves are also making a comeback this year.”

Wallace said she loves throwing on a scarf to accessorize her fall outfit as well.

“I like scarves,” Wallace said. “Instead of using a necklace, I use a scarf as my accessory instead.”
