View this post on Instagram I’m saddened to hear of the passing of Maestro Joseph Flummerfelt. I had the honor of performing in Crane Symphony Orchestra during my undergraduate years while Potsdam was hosting its annual LoKo Festival in 2015. He came to Crane as the special guest conductor for Brahms’s “Ein Deutsches Requiem”, and every note being played became a divine experience. His musicality was with warmth and with deep respect to Brahms, and his character reflected it. I vividly remember his parting words to us during our dress rehearsal, “Live your lives like how you want your legacy to be.” His obituary on various sites reflected his masterful musical life, and I am confident that this is the legacy he wanted to live towards. I also vividly remember him giving me a warm hug after the performance right before this picture was taken; he truly respected the musicians. It was because of that very concert that I truly respected and began to understand the beauty in Brahms’s music. Thank you, Maestro. Thank you, @thecraneschool , for allowing your students a chance to meet and interact with amazing musicians like Maestro Flummerfelt. #restinpeace A post shared by Lyra (@musicalyra) on Mar 4, 2019 at 9:23am PST
