Milwaukee is one of the staple power tool brands out there and the Milwaukee m12 is really a testament to why. The M12 is not a drill with aspirations to trick its buyers into thinking it is more than it really is. This is a sturdy, solid drill that is clearly designed for home use while giving incredible performance for a drill aimed at that sort of consumer.
You’ve Got the Power

We’ve found the M12 can be used through a couple days of all day use without needing a recharge. This is especially crucial for day-long projects.
But Not the Bit…
Unfortunately there is a trade off for the superior performance of this drill: It just cannot seem to hold a bit for any length of time. When you go to place a bit onto the drill you have to double check that it is securely placed in. Otherwise the bit will fallout before it even touches the screw. Now, we’ve seen both powerful and less powerful drills hold their bits perfectly in place (as they should) with absolutely no problems and without feeling like you have to shove the bit into its slot, so we can’t quite understand what the deal is here.
The good thing is it doesn’t happen all of the time. In fact, it’s only happened about 1% of the time and usually when we’re rushed or really IN the moment. Still, 1% can seem like too much when it’s an occurrence that shouldn’t happen to begin with.
The Verdict
The Milwaukee M12 is a great drill that falls into the prosumer category. It works surprisingly well and fast. The only real complaint is the lack of bit stability, but a quick double check should be all that is needed to make this drill a staple of your home.
