He lived with his family and enjoyed his life in his hometown until the government forces attacked it. The tragicincident killed hisbrother and father while his mother and sister escaped to the capitalof the country. The reason why men remained there was to protect their own land. (I could not understand why the government forces decided to do that without any aids for local people; however, they executed many innocent people. The main character, Agu managed to run away from there and was capturedby anti-government troops called NDF. The organization consisted of a commander and child soldiers whose family was killed, and they have no idea how to live their lives. They obeyed him otherwise they would be killed. The circumstance under the control of the commander was completely collapsed. Children were forced to commit murder and finally got used to it. In the end, Agu was moved to the safe place which the UN protected even though he has never feltgood about what he experienced during the period when he worked as a soldier.＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊ReactionNDF Child soldiers:could not survive without people who ordered them to do something because they did not be educated enough before (such as the danger of psychological group thinking, tobacco, marijuana, and the system of the society) The Commander:believed he did the right action. was satisfied with the situation that he was the ruler of the group. However, simultaneously, he knew he was one of the pawns that the leader could abandon whenever he wants. (He was also a victim of the exploitation of his boss.)The UnitedNationTheir cars just passed by childsoldiers. I know takingpictures and videos is important to deliver the information to the people; however, the incident was happening right beside them!!!! I felt like they recognized themselves as tourists. Why don't they stop the government and solve the disagreement betweenthe government and citizensbefore it happens???AguHe changed completely compared to the beginning of the story. He got used to NDF and killed his mother and sister although he hesitated to cut a man's head by an old ax. He could not believe someone because they do not know what the war is, and if they know what he did, he assumedthat he would berejected by them. He knew he was beast and evil, and he could not save himself from the nightmare of the period.Other issues Violationof women rights Weapon trading - passed to the children The collapsed government (it did not protect citizen's rights anymore, rather than that, they treated them as objects.) All lives are equal?? - underthis condition, one life means just one pawn or nothing while we who live in developed countries can live peacefullives without any wonder.This is totally my personal point of view.
