Opportunity Cost
一番理想的な世界は？と考えれば、「皆が平等に食べ物を得て、住む場所があって、」などになる。しかし、全てのものには限りがある。全ての人々が欲しいものや必要なものを手にすることが出来ない理由はそこにある。要するに、 経済学は、限界まで公衆の福祉を高めるために、何の商品やサービスをどれだけの量を生産するかを考える学問だと私は考えている。“時は金なり”と良く聞く事があるが、それは正に当たっている。一日は２４時間で、それ以上でも以下でもない。人はその限られた時間の中で、働いたり、勉強したり、寝たりする。全てのことを同時にこなすことは出来ない。Opportunity Costと言う言葉がある。これは、人が何かをすることで諦めなくてわいけない物や事を指す。
例えば、
A君は６時から１０時の間、時給８００円のバイトのシフトが入っていたが、彼女のBさんとその時間帯にディナーに行く予定もある。その二つの選択肢を考えていた時、A君は次の日テストがあることを思い出す。A君はその日のシフトをバイト仲間に代わってもらい、更にBさんにも断りのメールを送って次の日のテスト勉強をしたとする。結果は、
４時間勉強した事によって生じたOpportunity Cost ＝ ３２００円（800円×４）
＝ Bさんとの楽しい一時。
