I hope everyone had a great holiday, seeing friends and visiting the shrines as well.
This is my Christmas and New Year holiday back home in Philippines with my family.
I really had a great time and I also ate a lot of food during the holidays.
In our country, we have fireworks display on New Year’s Day and not in summer. This is because we believe that we drive away bad luck and evil spirits when we make noise on January 1st.
We don’t eat “Osechi-ryori” or “Mochi” in my country on New Year’s Day. Instead, we prepare 13 kids of around-shaped fruits that, symbolize wealth and prosperity.
The fruits’ shape is circle, like the coin or money, so we believe that we will have abundance for the whole year when we follow this tradition on New Year’s Day.
Each country has its own New Year tradition and there’s no harm in following them.
I wish everyone a prosperous 2011!! Let’s have more fun singing, learning and speaking English! I hope to see each one of you in MIS very soon!!
