"You Are Special — With or Without Illness"
Morning sunlight pours into a classroom.Children’s laughter fills the air as they unpack their school bags, ready to start another day.But among them, there might be one child who feels a quiet worry inside:“Am I different because of my illness?”“Can I join the others in PE class?”I wanted to create a picture book that gently answers those silent questions—a story that helps children see the beauty and strength within themselves, just as they are.Why I Created This BookThis story began as a message to my own child.I wanted to say,"You are precious, whether you have an illness or not."As I worked on it, I realized there might be many other families, teachers, and children who feel the same way.Kawasaki disease can sound serious and even frightening, but through colorful illustrations and gentle storytelling,I hoped to bring comfort, not fear—to make the topic something children can approach with a smile. The Message WithinTo every child reading this book:"You are not alone. There are people who care deeply about you.""There are other children living with the same condition. You are safe."To teachers and parents:I hope this book can be a bridge—a soft way to begin conversations that are often difficult to start.Even when medical words feel too heavy, stories and pictures can make understanding easier and warmer.Across BordersThe number of Kawasaki disease patient high in Japan and Kawasaki disease has been becoming widely known overseas. However, not common in certain countries as it is the disease with limited cases. That is why I also wanted to create an English version—so that children from international backgrounds, living and studying in Japan, can feel seen, supported, and safe at school. My wish is that this message travels beyond language and culture, reaching hearts everywhere:"You are special just as you are."Illness does not define who you are.Your presence, your laughter, your dreams—those are what make you truly special.May this picture book bring a sense of peace and courageto children, families, and educators all over the world. And may it remind us all that kindnessis the most universal language of all.学校生活と川崎病 | YOMO学校生活と川崎病. オリジナル絵本通販サイト「YOMO(ヨモ)」で作品を公開中!会員登録すると一度だけ全ページ試し読みすることができます。www.yomo-ehon.com
