マッシブアタックのカバー曲を作りました。Teardrop-MassiveAttack(cover)
ニュートン フォークナーのバージョンを元にカバーしました。オリジナル曲のようにピアノと東洋的なストリングスは取り入れました。
As for the guitar, I layered ASS Strum Acoustic Session 2 and SampleTank 3's Nylon guitar.
ギターはAAS Strum Acoustic Session とSampleTank 3 のナイロンギターをレイヤーしました。
中盤のダイナミックなボーカルに付点8分のディレイを使いました。終盤のコーラスは4つのボーカルテイクを用い、それを左右に別々の割合でパンを振りました。"shakes makes me makes me lighter" "teardrop on the fire" "of the confession" の部分は低音成分が多かったので、余分に2-3dBほど低域と中域をオートメーションで削りました。
ドラムに迫力を出すためにドラムのオーバーヘッドとルームの音量を上げて、少しコンプレッションをかけました。個別キットのクローズマイクやドラムバスにはコンプは使ってません。
ドラムアンビエンスの中域をカットし、5khzをピークタイプ、8KHzをハイシェルフでそれぞれ2dBほどブーストしました。
ピアノパートはボーカルやシンセベースにマスキングされてなかなか抜けてくれなくて苦労しました。まだマスキングされている部分もありますが、一部のパートはピアノが鳴った瞬間、シンセベースが完全にモノラルになるようにし、徐々にシンセベースのステレオイメージの中域と広域が広がるようにオートメーションで調整しました。
8分ディレイの単音シンセにはフェイザーを使い、オートメーションでdepthを徐々に上げていくようにしました。
また、ボーカルコーラスや単音のシンセにオートパンを使い広がりを持たせました。
I made the cover based on the Newton Faulkner version. I used a piano and an oriental string like the original Massive Attack version, though.
I used dotted 8th delay on the loud vocal. I used 4 vocal track on the "Um" chorus and then panned them right and left. The "shakes makes me makes me lighter" "teardrop on the fire" "of the confession" part sounded muddy. So, I applied automated EQ cut.
For an aggressive drum sound, I set the drum ambience louder than usual and then compressed it. I didn't compress the close mics.
I cut the midrange and boosted at 5K and high-shelf 8k by 2dB on the drum ambience. For a big kick, I applied a slight amount of sidechained compression on the synth bass.
I struggled to make the piano cut through. It's still masked by the synth bass or vocals but I tackled this by narrowing the stereo image of the synth bass at the monument the piano hits. After that widened the mid/high frequency on the synth bass with automation.
I automated phaser's depth on the 8th delay single note synth. I also applied autopan on the vocal chorus and the single note synth for a wider effect.
