I thought NASPA was safe because only skiers are allowed in, but I was hit from behind on a gentle slope and hurt my knee. I was diagnosed with a torn knee ligament at a local orthopedic clinic. I had just arrived, but I was told not to go into the hot springs and to go to an orthopedic clinic near my house, so I cut my trip short and went home. What a waste of money. I can't move for a while.
What I thought unfair was that the person who hit me was a student taking lessons at the official NASPA ski school. And the coach only spoke Chinese. Instead of telling me who to contact if I later found out I was seriously injured, or where the first aid room was, he treated me like a suspicious person. If the coach had called out to me, "It's dangerous. Move to the left" or "Move to the right," I might not have been hit. And what kind of lessons are you giving to students who can't even stop in a V-shape? ?
According to the website, the coaches possess Japanese coaching qualification, but isn't it dangerous to certify someone who doesn't understand Japanese? I spoke to several coaches who were wearing the same uniform as him, they couldn't speak Japanese nor English. I thought it was a sneaky school until I checked the website.
The staff at the hotel where I was staying were kind and took me to the orthopedic clinic. There were already several patients there who seemed to be Chinese-speaking skiers, and I had to wait for three hours. A lady had bandages on her face.
It was so dangerous that I called the NASPA Ski School to complain. Improvements of the system for the safety are urgent.
