Hey there!
I just talked two hours with a former classmate on the phone.
Obviously we're gonna have a class reunion in June and I'm not sure if I should attend.
First I was a little surprised that it's already ten years since we left school and second, that she could remember me.
Let's say that I was one of the not-so-popular girls back in school.
I was the nerd. The girl that was always sitting in a corner with a book.
My classmates didn't bully me or something but I was just .... an outsider.
(Me 10 years ago. I'm really holding a book in this picture. I just hid it fast enough.)
Now the thought of seeing them all again is somehow disturbing.
I don't know, even though I changed a lot since then, it just feels like you're being pulled back in time.
The girl I talked with told me a lot about the others already.
Almost all of them are married and have kids and live in these cute little houses with their families and dogs.
And me?
When I told her that I'm single, live alone and work hard for a construction company she actually hissed!!
What is so wrong with that?
I mean, I'm 29! Is there some kind of dead-line I already past?
Or an unwritten law that, as a woman, you have to marry and have lots of kids?
Usually I'm fine with my life. I like it.
But talking to her somehow gave my confidence a severe punch.
Why does there even have to be something like a class reunion?
On the one hand, I want to go there and show them that I'm not the same as back then and that I have accomplished a lot.
On the other, I don't want them to judge me again for not living like they all do.
I know I should be more confident but it took me a long time and hard work to leave the nerdy girl behind and to be reminded of this again .... I just don't know.
Okay, enough whining.
There is still enough time to think about it.
Now I'm off for some grocery shopping.
I wanna go to work!!!
