資源描述與檢索(Resource Description and Access, RDA)
是英美編目規則修訂委員會（Joint Steering Committee forRevision of AACR，簡稱JSC）在2005年宣布放棄英美編目規則第三版（Anglo-American Cataloging Rule, 3rd ed.，簡稱AACR3）草案，進一步研擬新的內容標準。RDA是一種專為數位環境中資源著錄與檢索而發展的新規則，一向圖書館界專用的「編目」（cataloging）也被換成比較一般性、容易被瞭解的用詞，例如：「資源」（resource）、「描述」（description）與「檢索」（access）。
AACR自1967年出版至今，廣泛地被圖書館界使用40多年，其間不斷的修訂版本，已成為國際性的通用編目規則。惟AACR發展在傳統紙本文獻資源的環境，專為單一書目紀錄的建立，文獻與紀錄之間的相互關係難以呈現。
2005年在英美編目規則修訂委員會的會議中，接受專家學者的建議後，宣布決定以RDA取代AACR2，一種在數位環境下為資源著錄與檢索而發展的內容標準，配合現今科技對資料擷取、儲存、檢索與顯示的功能，編訂具有彈性、有效率的編目規範。
RDA與AACR2最大的不同，在於RDA是架構在書目紀錄功能需求（Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records，簡稱FRBR）及權威資料功能需求（Functional Requirements for Authority Data，簡稱FRAD）基礎下的新編目規則，標識作品與創建者之間的關係，說明同一作品與其任何翻譯、解釋、改寫、改編等不同形式；或不同載體之間的關係，除充分發揮書目記錄的功能，也建立權威資料的基礎概念。
RDA除設計用來描述各種不同資料類型的資源，符合資源描述機構（例如：圖書館、博物館、出版商）的需求，容易被接受與使用外，RDA書目紀錄與AACR2的紀錄相容，還能兼容如MARC21、XML及Dublin Core等多種標準資料描述格式，足以加強和改進書目描述和資源間的相互關係。
