Hello! Today, I’m excited to share my experience riding the Limited Express "Sōya," which runs through Hokkaido, Japan. This train connects Sapporo to Wakkanai, Japan’s northernmost station, on a journey that takes about five hours. With the anticipation of seeing breathtaking autumn landscapes in Hokkaido, I eagerly boarded the train!
Stunning Views from the Train Window
As the train departs from Sapporo, breathtaking scenery unfolds outside the window. After passing Asahikawa, the trees turn brilliant shades of red and yellow, creating a picturesque view that feels like a painting. Around Bifuka Station, golden fields stretch endlessly, offering a true sense of autumn’s charm.
The Limited Express "Sōya" continues northward, passing through stations that exude the essence of northern Japan, such as Nayoro and Otoineppu. Traveling through the vast nature of Hokkaido while enjoying a relaxing time onboard is truly a special experience.
Arrival in Wakkanai!
After a five-hour journey, I finally arrived at Wakkanai, the northernmost terminal station. Stepping off the train, the crisp autumn air immediately made me realize I had reached the far north. Right near the station, you’ll find the northernmost railway terminal in Japan—a perfect spot for a commemorative photo.
A Journey to Remember
The trip on the Limited Express "Sōya" was an incredible way to experience the vast natural beauty of Hokkaido. The train was comfortable, and the scenery from the window was nothing short of spectacular. Autumn in Hokkaido, in particular, offers a stunning contrast between the colorful foliage and the expansive land, adding to the nostalgic charm of the journey.
