Unlike HTC devices, Samsung Galaxy smartphones and tablets all use the Android operating system. The first Samsung Galaxy, the i7500 came out in 2009 and ran on Android 1.6, while more recent phones like the Galaxy 8 and the Google Nexus use the Android 6.0 software, also known as Marshmallow. The newer Samsung Galaxy Tab tablet PC’s typically run on Marshmallow too. In this article, we look at some the options available for playing poker on Samsung Galaxy Android based mobile phones and tablets.

Poker apps for Samsung Galaxy

Galaxy

If you’re interested in playing poker on your Samsung Galaxy phone or tablet, you’ll be pleased to know that lots of the big online poker rooms have noted the market for people who want to play poker on their smartphones and tablets, and because Android is the most popular operating system, they’ve made developing a good product for Android users a priority. Some poker rooms have gone for dedicated apps which are downloaded to your device, while other have opted for an in-browser poker experience where you can play right in your phone’s browser. These apps are compatible with play on an iPhone, Android and even on a PC.

The downloadable apps are much better and of the ones on the market, we recommend 888 and Red Kings above all others, with 888 currently the number one site in our opinion. You can visit all three sites by clicking on their names.

Compatibility

There are some problems with compatibility across the poker rooms and the various Android software releases. One phone in particular, the Samsung Galaxy Ace isn’t compatible with Adobe Air, the software platform on which most poker software packages run, so you won’t be able to play on the sites listed above if you have a Galaxy Ace. Newer phones like the Nexus and the Galaxy S III should have no problems.

The best thing to do is visit whichever site you want to play on and attempt to download and install the software; there are so many different software releases on Galaxy phones that its not entirely clear which apps work with which release, so you’re best off giving it a try.

There are options available to you even if your phone won’t run the downloadable apps. There were a couple of good options for in-browser play, most notably Terminal Poker and Switch Poker but both of these are closed down now. Terminal Poker had recently introduced tournaments and the action there was faster than pretty much any other Android poker site, while Switch Poker offered multi-tabling facilities, something that’s very important to people that quickly get bored playing a single table.

More than $500,000 in prize money

Starting Wednesday, March 25 and running through Sunday, June 7, 888poker is hosting the “Galaxy of Freerolls” promotion. The promo gives poker players access to a score of poker tournaments that cost zero dollars to enter, but have more than $500,000 in combined real money prize pools.

Though winning significant money is very difficult in freerolls because of the combination of large player fields and relatively low prize money per tournament, the Galaxy of Freerolls should be a welcome promotion to 888poker’s customers.

People around the world have been forced to stay home during the coronavirus pandemic and could use another form of entertainment. That the tourneys are free and offer the chance to win money is an added bonus, especially for those who are currently out of work.

Complete missions for freeroll tickets

There are three different freerolls during the two-plus month promotion. The $2,000 Venus Freeroll runs every day of the week except Sunday at both 16:25 GMT and 22:25 GMT. The $10,000 Neptune Freeroll is held each Sunday at 20:25 GMT. At the end of the promo is the $10,000 Super Saturn Freeroll on June 7 at 18:25 GMT.

While they are all free tournaments, there is still an entry requirement. Players will not be able to just login, register, and play. The qualification criteria are simple, though, and require minimal normal play. They should be achievable by anyone with even a tiny bankroll on 888poker.

Players must complete daily “missions” to earn tournament tickets. Only one mission can be completed per day. One mission earns a player two tickets into the daily $2,000 Venus Freeroll. Two more missions in a week grants a ticket into the $10,000 Neptune Freeroll. And 14 or more missions during the entire promotion earns a player a ticket into the final $100,000 Super Saturn Freeroll.

The missions are easy. “The Tournament Voyager” mission is completed by playing in poker tournaments with buy-ins totaling at least $3. The “Ace-King Apollo Landing” mission requires players to win a cash game hand with A-K at minimum stakes of $0.02/$0.05. And the “Casino & Sport Atlantis Orbiter” mission is completed with casino or sports bets totaling $5.

Live tournaments moving online
