Anime can be our academic carrier?
(Sorry for writing my first blog in English, the Japanese version will be added soon)Hi againIn this pot I want to discuss about how anime has impact in our life.Anime is a popularamong audiences from various countires. In the year 2020 the anime Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie: Mugen Train had the box office of 386.1 million US dollars excluding two big markets of Britain and USA; Anime audiences rocked the market on 2018 whenThe Seven Deadly Sins the Movie: Prisoners of the Skysold 5.003 billion US dollars. In first half of this year 10 short video clips about anime on the TikTok platform crossed 1 billion viewsand became the first trend of this platform which also happened in 2019 and 2018. It is nearly impossible to scroll on your Instagram feed and never see a post about anime. According Nippon.comtotal revenues of anime industry in Japan is more than ¥200 billion per year so there should be many job opportunities in this industry inside and oustside of Japan.So does it also bring job opportunity for anime audiences?Anime fandom –people who are fans of anime- can be ordinary fans or otaku fans; Otaku states for “someone with an obsessive interest in something, a geek. One can be a computer otaku, a fashion otaku or an anime otaku” (Hu, 2010, p.194) and when it comes with anime means people who anime-influenced and involved with all aspects of their life and it may end up to being Nito, people who stay at home most of their times and watch almost all of their time watching anime and playing video games. For anime audiences use anime not only for entertainment but according to Ray ET. Al. (2017) watching it, they fulfill their self-teem and the need to have friends; seek meaning in life; distinctiveness, uncertainty reduction, and belongingness. I specially want to underline this "seek meening in life" because it's important specially when you want to become a researcher simply because based on Stuart Hall Ideas we code the meaning we produce in a way we framed our understanding of the world backward (Hall, 1997, pp. 16-33) and being a researcher is being meaning coder, same goes for any job creats contents like writers, presenters, social media influencers ets...Watching anime and reading manga influences audiences’ careers. After translated manga became popular in the USA, it influenced American students who were anime audiences. American undergraduates were writing papers about manga and anime around 1990; not too long after that, candidates for master’s degrees also began writing about them; now, there are even doctoral candidates writing about manga and tenured professors who specialize in either manga, anime, or both (MacWilliams,2008, p.VIII & XI).So ofcourse anime can be our hobby but also can bring us the passion to study on it and help our favorite content to develope in a way can bring people awareness for exampleNormaliza Abd Rahim studied on how elementary students inMalaysia internalize ideas they learn about anime heroes and how they decide how to shape their characters and could provide some advices for anime directors and screen writers to improve their quality for educating children better.
