SUMMER HOLIDAY TIME 2011

photo:01

Suitcase packed and waiting for the ABC man.

He's coming tomorrow morning.

We are off to the States on Wednesday.

First stop San Francisco.

Three days to be spent touring the city and

nearby areas. We've been told there's a great

Picasso exhibition in one of the museums so

plan to take that in.

Next we fly to Tampa in Florida. On paper it

looks like a seven or eight hour flight. That's

because we cover three or four time zones.

Actually about half that time.

From florida we drive to Sarasota were we'll

stay with our grandson and his parents. After

three or four days we head to Miami. From there

we join a cruise ship and visit The Bahamas. People

say the beaches there have pink colored sand.

After the cruise we return to Sarasota and then

head to Los Angeles for a few days before returning

to Tokyo.

Hope to have pictures to show and stories to tell on

our return.

In the meantime, KEEP SMILING BE HAPPY and enjoy

the summer.

M. Y. Plays the Sanshin

Watched and listened to the first 30 minutes

of a charity concert in the band shell beside

Shinobazu Pond in Ueno today.
300 or so colorfully dressed Okinawans and

supporters all playing the Okinawan sanshin.

Took lots of photos with my camera but

all were out of focus, so can only show these

two from my i-phone.

photo:01

Before the show started.

Young guy with the blue shirt and magnificent head

is great friend who later appeared on stage

and whose photos I failed to take well enough to print

Below photo.

The show is under way. Music, dancing and comedy,

all performed with enormous joy before an enthusiastic

crowd who braved the cold rainy weather to be there.

photo:02

Although we only stayed about an hour (It was scheduled

to run from 10.30 to 16.30) we enjoyed it

almost as much as the ducks we saw in the pond seemed to

be enjoying the rain.

Next chance, if the weather is fine, we'll take a hamper

and a bottle of wine, and make a day of it.

Anyway, every new experience is interesting!

so

Keep Smiling Be Happy and learn to swim like a duck!

In that way even wet weather can be fun.

One year ago I spent a few weeks here in what I
choose to call The Tsukiji Hilton.
However, you might know it better as

photo:01

For the last year 10 months I've been returning
for, at first weekly, then fortnightly, now monthly,
and soon to be two-monthly checks.

photo:02

Strange as it may be, I've grown to enjoy my visits.

Of course I'll be happiest when the need for them

comes to an end, but I'll always be appreciative of the

treatment I've received.

photo:03

Every single member of the staff I've come into

contact with has shown me great kindness and

done their best to help me recover.

photo:04

Doctors and nurses, technical staff and ward staff,

administrative and office staff, catering and

cleaning staff, all have impressed me enormously.

Polite, efficient, caring and kind!

photo:05

Usually my visits begin with a blood test. The lab

opens at 8 am, so by 7.30 there is usually a long

waiting line. I often arrive in time to be in the

first 30 or so.

photo:06

Sometimes after the blood test I have an x-ray

or some other check, but on most days I go to see

my doctor. Then I rush off to university.

photo:07

Dr. S is my doctor and a he always sends me

away feeling things are going well. He is also happy

to speak English, as are all the doctors I meet. and that

is a big help.Their English is almost perfect and much

better than my Japanese.

photo:08

Well, today I went back for an eye test (no problems)

but mistook the time and arrived an hour early.

So I took a stroll through the hospital garden and

photographed the flowers, a statue and fountain.

photo:09

Beautiful. aren't they? Just like everything else

connected with the Tsukiji Hilton. I hope you

never need to visit, but if you do, you'll be well

looked after.
