Last winter I decided to make a pond in the garden.

The idea was to create an environment that supports itself, without elecrticity (lights, air pumps) or fertilizers etc.

this is my original idea, which I drew in last November.

i chose a corner of the garden that has a very poor soil and nothing wants to grow there.

as I began digging, I discovered an old manhole!

I ordered suitable underlay mat and a HDPE plastic layer and cut it to the shape of the pond.

Next step was to collect natural gravel from a mountain stream and highly organic mud from a pond.

I spent 3 months looking for the mud that has correct properties, but finally I found an old pond in the countryside, that hasn`t been polluted by farming or dirty water from the roads.

Then I poured a clean water from our well and let the pond settle down for a few days.

This pond will attract nature, so I will use only the plants that have special function, for example cleaninng up ammonia and creating a lot of shade on the surface of the pond.

It has been a month since the pond was established, and I already have some life forms in it ^^

dragonfly larvae eat mosquitoes and other insects in the water, so I`m really happy to see them!

Pond skaters eat mosquitoes and other flies on the surface of the water, and generally keep the surface clean of dead flies. Below, a baby frog is getting fat quickly, eating dead plants and small organisms.

The pond will have a floating hyacinth and lilies as the main ornamental plants. When summer comes, I will see their flowers above the water ^^
