Pet Travel Policy for Air France

Pets are permitted on Air France flights, either in the cabin or in the hold. Depending on your itinerary, the rules for pet acceptance may differ (departure country and destination). Air France reserves the right to restrict or limit the transport of pets on specific aircraft types or to specific destinations.

Your pet must be at least 8 weeks old to be allowed on board flights within metropolitan France (including Corsica) and between metropolitan France and French overseas departments and territories (except French Guiana – 15 weeks old). For other flights, pets must be at least 10 weeks old to be accepted. The Air France telephone sales department can inform you of the regulations. Your pet must also have all required vaccines.

Which pets are allowed to travel on Air France flights?

On Air France flights, only dogs and cats are permitted.

Air France will not accept dangerous dogs for transportation (1st or 2nd category of dog breed outlined by the French Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry). Category 1 dogs do not belong to a particular breed. Dogs in Category 1 do not belong to a specific breed. Their appearance is similar to that of American Staffordshire terriers (pit bulls), Mastiffs, and Tosas (i.e. without pedigree).

Category 1 dogs (also known as "attack dogs") are not permitted to travel in the cabin, as checked baggage, or as cargo. Dogs of the pedigreed American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, and Tosa breeds, as well as Rottweiler type, fall into Category 2 – defense and guard dogs (without pedigree). Air France cargo flights allow for the transport of Category 2 dogs. Category 2 dogs, upon request and subject to availability, can travel in a certified cage (required) on the same flight as their owner.

Air France In Cabin Pet Policy

Pets are welcome in the cabin with prior approval from the Customer Service Department. On intercontinental flights, pets are not permitted in the Business cabin. Dogs and cats may be transported in the cabin as long as the total weight of the pet and container does not exceed 8 kg (17 lbs).

Your pet must travel in a special closed travel bag with maximum dimensions of 46 x 28 x 24 cm (18 x 11 x 9 in) and must never be allowed to leave the container during the flight. Air Air France Pet Travel Policy France recommends bringing a flexible bag and no longer accepts animal crates in the cabin, regardless of size. The container must be sufficiently ventilated and big enough to allow your pet to stand up and turn around. However, in the Economy cabin, the container must fit under the seat in front of you.

Each passenger is only allowed to bring one pet, and each pet must travel in its own container. The travel container for your pet is considered additional baggage (in addition to your carry-on allowance) and will incur a fee.
