Born in late 1.997 the Vienna-based Novy Svet set out to bring some confusion into the so-called industrial uniformity. The group is neither tied to any musical style nor to any language. Each of the five albums released (Rumorarmonio, Faccia a faccia, Cuori di petrolio, Venezia, Chappaqua) introduced the always growing audience to a new aspect of the group. Novy Svet was one of the very first projects to be released on Albin Julius ' Hau Ruck! label where it found a home for its own recordings but also for many collaborations with other groups from the label's roster (Mushroom's Patience , Dernière Volonté , Foresta Di Ferro ). Until today, Novy Svet has been pushing the limits of musical categories aside to establish a unique mixture of folk, experimental and haunting neo-surrealism.

If you have a question about an artist or song we play, or anything related to programming on a particular channel, please contact the music director for that channel directly:

Please do not ask us to send you a MP3 of a song. We are licensed only to broadcast, not to distribute music. We are also unable to provide downloads of our shows or mixes due to copyright restrictions.

Please do not put our email addresses on mailing lists.

Due to the high volume of email we get we can't promise we'll reply to everyone, but we will read all your email (unless it mistakenly gets blocked by our spam filter... we get about 350 spams a day now, and sometimes a few legitimate messages can get caught by the spam filter.)

We prefer email to phone calls, but if you must call the studio phone is +1 415 552-7662 (SOMA). If we are busy, we may not answer it. There is no voice mail, please email any messages instead. The music programming office is +1 415 826 9500 but only accepts calls between 11am and 4pm pacific time.
How to have your tracks considered for Airplay

If you think your music would fit nicely on one of our channels, send it to us. SomaFM supports unsigned and independent artists, and we want to help great music get heard.

The easiest way is to send us a CD. Our mailing address is:

SomaFM
1890 Bryant Street, Suite 303
San Francisco, CA 94110 US

Attn: (Channel name you are submitting to, e.g. Groove Salad, Indie Pop Rocks, etc)

If you are submitting music for multiple channels, just send a single CD to the most likely channel, we'll make sure the other music directors get it as well. We may not play the music on the channel you submit it to if we think it will fit better on another channel. Do not send CDs via certified or registered mail as it will most likely not be signed for and returned to you.
Note the following important exceptions!

Both Tag and Shawn prefer to get music electronically, and if you send a CD to the above address, they won't receive it in a timely fashion. So if you have a track for Beat Blender, send Shawn the info on how he can download it: shawn@somafm.com And for music submissions to Tag's Trance Trip, email Tag at tag@somafm.com.
Electronic Submissions

We accept MP3s that have valid ID3 tag information! We prefer 256kb constant bit rate, "normal stereo" (NOT joint stereo) MP3s encoded at the highest quality setting. 128k MP3s and files from MySpace are not acceptable for broadcast.

SomaFM has a FTP "drop box" where you can upload MP3 files or MP3 albums in Zip form. You can access it at ftp://monitor.somafm.com. There are separate drop boxes for each channel, please only upload a single copy of the song to the most relevant channel folder.

Alternatively, you can email us URLs for download, as long as we don't have to log in or join anything. We prefer that you don't use services such as "Sendspace" which make you wait and look at ads before downloading the files. Make sure you send the files directly to the appropriate music director listed above. MP3 files and all attachments sent to dj@somafm.com are automatically deleted, so please use the proper email for the channel you're submitting to, and it is preferred that you do not send attachments, only URLS.

Include a little info about yourself, where people can buy or download the music, and which channel(s) you think your tunes would fit on. (hint: a post-it note on the CD suggesting the best tracks and the appropriate channel is a great idea!)

And one important thing: make sure your CD is in the CDDB. The easiest way to do this is to use a CDDB-compatible computer CD player (such as iTunes), and load your CD in and enter all the track and album data, and use the menu command to "submit CD info to CDDB". This ensures that when we load your CD into our systems, the correct artist and song track info gets loaded as well. And we're more likely to listen to your music if we've already loaded it into our database system.

If your CD is not in the CDDB, you should submit it electronically instead (per the above).

We won't promise we'll play everything we receive - we're very picky about what we play. But we will try to listen to everything we get. Sometimes the various music directors get backlogged, so allow us some time to check out your music.

Thanks!
