Why She Left Singapore (and now...)
I really enjoyed watching it.![]()
and actually I got surprised that Lydia-san and her husband lives in Ota, where my parents home located. I know the school, GKA isn’t it?![]()
At the beginning, I thought she is Japanese who speaks English fluently. She doesn't really look like Singaporean in my eyes. She doesn’t also have Singlish accent until Ghib-san ask if she can. so I first thought she could be a Japanese lady.
I went to Singapore quite often in the past and everytime I enjoyed hearing Singlish. It sounds like singing, and it's quite different from when European people speak English. I always feel “sunshine, palm tree, ocean, easy going feeling etc” whenever I hear their Singlish accent w/their smiley faces.![]()
but sometimes I don't understand what Singaporean says since they often cut the end of the pronounciation. For instance, they say Po instead of Porc.
Gee..How can I guess!
Btw, about Ghib-san.
It’s obvious that Ghib-san loves Singapore and I saw his other video saying he feels…sort of left out in Japan. but it’s normal because your life is not in Japan at the moment. but you know, if you live outside of Japan more than 10 years, you might get different opinion I suppose. ![]()
I was actaully taking advantage of opportunity to cut my hair in Japanese coiffure in Singapore whenever I go there as a business trip or holiday and when I was speaking with Japanese owner, he told me that he's got bored living in Singapore after 3 years. Indeed, I sort of agree with his opinion. Singapore is nice and clean and I love it
but for a living? Perhaps too small. ![]()
Another example, I remember that one of the business
partner in Singapore has Audi A7 but having car in Singapore is already insanely pricy as tax wise. but I also had to ask about having a car in Singapore from another aspect to him
"Where are you gonna drive with this level of engine in Singapore?" and he tole me
"Good question!" and we both laughed. ![]()
but I think Singapore is one of the strong "show off" mentailty region. Perhaps that might be an essential reason to have it, especially in business.
Btw, I assume that Ghib-san is sort of “a beginner phase” when it comes to “real living” in overseas. Study abroad is just an experience but living means we all must pay the tax in the living country, ça veut dire, You must earn money, ( normally in your living country except some cases. ) and have to go deeper into the community to let local people feel secure about somebody new in their neighbourhood. ![]()
I assume that Lydia-san and her husband really loves Japan since they are living there for 11 years.
I personally really welcome ppl who came to live in my country just because they simply love it. In fact she seems speaking Japanese fluently. How wonderful it is to witness that people love my country!
I also highly respect with people who doesn’t throw their nationality away for some kind of funky reasons such as "Nationality Laundering".
Therefore, all advanced countries actually welcome ONLY highly educated ppl w/ great common sense and socializing skills.
I also found her opinion is matured as well. For example, instead of saying racism, she said “It’s just a xenophobia.” and I agree with that point.
I think débutant foreign ppl including débutant Japanese who lives in overseas ought to learn what is really a racism means before they use this word so lightly. ![]()
In these days, Chinese and Korean become furious about something very small and often connect it to the racism. but you know they are sort of 30 years behind in their mental sophistication unfortunately. so they need some time to learn how to understand things are not always based on their negative imagination, you see? ![]()
At any rate, after a while, witnessing ppl mentioning racism, I often discovered that what they meant could be a “Xenophobia”.
but to be honest, most of the time, I also wonder if it was really a Xenophobia. If people are mean or rude, it doesn’t always mean that they are Xenophobia.
Sometimes people are just being stupid or less educated, that’s all. ![]()
For instance, Lydia-san doesn’t get unpleasant experience because obviously she is integrating the Japanese way successfully. Same tendency in Europe as well. If your way of thinking is based on your mother country and doesn’t integrate the local way, then the life will be difficult and always feel ppl are mean to you. This is not at all constructive and tend to develop "Paranoia". In this case, perhaps better to find more suitable place for a living…![]()
Yeah, of course vegetable in Singapore are not so cheap. This is because they haven't got enough land for agriculture. Place like Singapore and Hawaii must import everything so the price is naturally a bit more higher. but dining out in Singapore isn’t so expensive either unless you choose 3 stars Michelin restaurant. C'est comme ça. ![]()
Yeah, I often hear from Singaporeans that they are not happy with the weather. but I always envy the 365 days sunshine since the weather in West Europe from autumn to the end of winter is boring as hell. I guess people simply get attracted by something we don't have.
Like I miss so mush about the scent of fresh plumeria! ![]()

Basically I'm in love with South East Asia's weather and nature. I also love their food culture and easy going smiley faces. ![]()
I want to explore more about this region. ![]()
