Judge denies bond reduction for beating suspect

Judge Daniel Kellogg heard arguments Thursday on whether to reduce the bond of Isaiah A. Broadus by about $25,000.

Mr. Broadus, 22, has served about 100 days in jail for his alleged involvement in the June 29 beating of Ben Taylor.

Facing an upgraded Class B felony charge of first-degree assault, Mr. Broadus' bond will continue to be set at $30,000.

Mr. Broadus' attorney, Dawn Williams, highlighted career opportunities, counseling and therapy, as well as his cooperation in the case, as reasons for the bond reduction.

Citing a lack of information pertaining to Mr. Taylor's medical condition, Ms. Williams asked that Mr. Broadus be given a chance for serving so much time without the production of medical records.

Assistant prosecuting attorney Ron Holliday clarified that Mr. Taylor is undergoing rehabilitation in Joplin, Mo., after having brain surgery.

Man receives shock treatment in child porn case

Daniel P. Matlack, 37, received a rare reprieve Thursday following pleading guilty to a Class C felony charge of possession of child pornography.

Repentant in front of Judge Daniel Kellogg, Mr. Matlack will participate in a 120-day evaluation program by the Missouri Sex Offender Assessment Unit. This being his first major offense, Mr. Matlack will enter into the program designed to assess community risks and sex offender treatment needs.

In December 2009, Mr. Matlack sent three pictures of child pornography via Yahoo! instant messenger.

Chad Gaddie, Mr. Matlack's attorney, admitted that his client had been descending into a world of pornography, with his arrest being rock bottom.
