Zero conditional
The condition always has the same result.
(If + present simple, present simple)
If you heat ice, it melts.

First conditional
There is a real possibility that the condition will happen.
(If + present simple, will + base verb)
If I win the lottery, I will buy a car.
(I have a lottery ticket now.)
Second conditional
There is an unreal possibility that the condition will happen.
(If + past simple, would + base verb)
If I won the lottery, I would buy a car.
(I don't have a lottery ticket now.)
Third conditional
Both the condition and result are impossible.
(If + past perfect, would have + past participle)
If I had won the lottery, I would have bought a car.
(Last week I bought a lottery ticket, but did not win.)
