She’s the Gossip Girl teen queen turned rising Hollywood star but while Blake Lively is famous for her acting talent, she’s just as popular for her blonde bombshell looks.

The Los Angeles native, 27, might look a million dollars, but her beauty routine is surprisingly low key – and doesn’t cost a fortune.

From cheap and cheerful eyelash curlers (she uses a spoon!) to coconut oil for extra shiny hair, we reveal what it takes to look like Hollywood’s favourite California girl.

SWAP EYELASH CURLERS FOR TEASPOONS

It’s not the obvious way to do it but that’s exactly what she does – with a little help from her make-up artist.

I like it when [make-up artists] curl my eyelashes using a spoon,’ she explains. ‘I mean, these people are artists and they accentuate your features like an artist paints on a canvas.’

GET A (FAKE) TAN

Nothing sets off blonde hair quite as perfectly as a tan but as sun-savvy Blake explains, the best tans come from a bottle.

‘Growing up in California, everyone always has a tan,’ she says. ‘As I’ve matured, I realize that SPF is really important, as is a good bronzer.’

Even better is a BB cream such as L'Oreal Skin Perfection (RRP $24.95) not only hydrates the skin but gives it a pop of sun-kissed colour.

SORT OUT YOUR SKINCARE

‘I started Gossip Girl at 19 and didn't have much of a skincare routine,’ the actress confessed in a recent interview.

'The older I get, the more I realise, now I'm not on that show with someone doing that to me every day, that I need to focus on it more.’

Her solution? ‘Skin Perfection [L’Oréal Paris] is a really great moisturiser; it really refines your pores.’ Well, if it’s good enough for Blake… (RRP $24.95)

PILE ON THE COCONUT OIL

It tastes great, models swear by it and you can use it on everything from salads to skin. No surprise then, that Blake is yet another gorgeous woman to swear by coconut oil.

‘Before a good shampoo, I put coconut oil through the lengths and ends of my hair,’ she advises. ‘It makes it really shiny.’

If you don't fancy going the whole hog and using coconut oil, nourishing hair oils such as L’Oreal Paris Elvive Extraordinary Oil (RRP $19.95) can give locks a real boost daily.

LEAVE THE HEAVY BASE BEHIND

Thick foundation can be ageing and no one knows that better than Blake, who, in any case, has beautiful skin of the sort that looks great with very little make-up.

‘I tend to be a bit glowy, a bit bronzy,’ she says. ‘Not too much base, so skin looks fresh and pretty. I like to play up my eyes and stick to rosy tones on my lips.

BLEND IS YOUR FRIEND

Streaky make-up and hard lines are never a good look and no-one knows it better than Elaine Offers, the make-up artist behind Blake’s fresh-faced red carpet look.

‘I always prime the eyelid using L'Oréal's Base Magique (RRP $29.95) so Blake's shadows will last all night,’ she explains.

‘I usually build her smoky eye just using a pencil! The idea is to treat traditional eyeliner like a cream shadow. L'Oréal's Colour Riche Le kohl's are soft and blendable, so they're easy to work with, but once they set, they're budge-proof. Then, you can layer your shadows of choice.’

SLEEP WITH WET HAIR

It might sound strange, but Blake insists that her trademark tousled waves are the result of nothing more than pulling freshly washed hair into a ballerina bun and leaving it to dry overnight.

‘I have naturally wavy hair so I’ll dry it where it’s still a little bit wet and then I’ll put it just in a ballerina bun and then when I take it out it has a really nice natural deep wave,’ she explains.

‘If you have any sort of natural bend in your hair, if you let it dry in that bun… make sure the bun is really tight then it will come out with really pretty waves.’

GO NUDE

Never one for a strong red lip, Blake instead plumps for a kissable pout created using a slick of nude lip gloss, like L'Oreal's Colour Riche Extraordinaire in Nude Ballet (RRP $21.95).

‘Blake loves a glossy lip, and I prefer to use nude products that have a little bit of warmth,’ adds Offers.

‘For her complexion, I like subtle peach and pink undertones because they make the lips neutral and healthy looking. Nude on its own can make you look washed out.’

ADD A DASH OF BLUE

Blue eyeliner might still be struggling to break free from the garish reputation it garnered during the 1980s but that doesn’t mean it should be ruled out, says Blake.

‘I like a very natural eye make-up look, but when I wear black eyeliner, I like to add a little dark navy pencil on the inner rim,’ she reveals, adding: ‘It makes my blue eyes look electric.’

DO DAY HAIR AT NIGHT (BUT IF ALL ELSE FAILS, TRY A PONYTAIL)

My go-to night time hair look is just my daytime hair look,’ says Blake of her enviably glossy locks. ‘It kind of just carries over.

‘If you’re in a pinch, you can slick back your hair in a tight ponytail. Take the ponytail and braid it, kind of haphazardly, so that it’s not just three pieces of hair.

‘You should take random chunks, braid it, and twist it. It’s a more interesting night time look that takes about 12 seconds.’
