"Letting ChatGPT Draw a Manga: More of a Creativity Challenge Than I Expected"

Introduction

Once you’ve learned how to draw illustrations, the next thing you’ll probably want to try is manga, right?

This time, I teamed up with ChatGPT to take on the challenge of creating a 4-panel comic!

But before diving in, I learned it’s important to be clever with how you write prompts. So I asked ChatGPT how to prevent sentence interference when writing.

How to Prevent Sentence Interference (Advice from ChatGPT)

✅ Use bullet points: Makes each idea more independent
✅ Clearly separate sentences with periods ("."): The easiest to understand
⭕ Explicitly deny unintended influence between parts: More advanced technique

Urban Legend? Do Cheers Boost AI Performance?

I also asked ChatGPT about a rumor floating around online:
“Does cheering on AI improve its performance?”

> ChatGPT’s response (summary):
“It might result in more polite writing or higher enthusiasm.”
→ It can enhance the richness and creativity of responses, but doesn’t help with logical tasks.

So, turns out that cheering isn't completely meaningless.
It might be worth trying out!

Preparing to Create a 4-Panel Comic

The big difference between illustrations and manga is that characters appear across multiple panels.
Here’s the prompt I gave to ChatGPT:

🧑‍🎓 Character Settings:

Older sister: High school girl, wearing a school uniform, shoulder-length wavy hair. Looks flashy, but is actually responsible.

Younger sister: Lower elementary school student, bangs cover her eyes. She adores her older sister.

🎯 Instruction:
“Please create a 4-panel comic with these settings.”

What Actually Happened...

At first—maybe shy?—ChatGPT returned a prompt for an illustration meant for Stable Diffusion (lol).
But after I kept cheering it on, it finally gave me a draft! I felt like a rookie editor!

And the result...

It had only three panels!

Characters not in the prompt showed up!

Still, it felt very much like,

> “This comic was drawn for me!”

So no complaints—mission accomplished 😄

I Also Got the Featured Image Illustrated

To create the featured image for the blog, I used a prompt like this:

> “A person drawing a 4-panel manga at a wooden desk. A smiling woman with brown hair in a yellow hoodie is cheering on a robot…” (and so on)

It ended up being so detailed, the text got longer than the picture prompt itself!
But the result? I was super satisfied!

Bonus: How to Keep Character Consistency with ChatGPT

✅ Define the character at the beginning of every prompt
✅ Use memory features (available to Plus users only)
✅ Save your character setup as a template and reuse it

The first method is the easiest and most accessible.

Conclusion

After illustrations, I asked ChatGPT to help make manga too—and it turned out to require way more creativity and finesse than I expected!

Also, I was surprised to learn that cheering actually has some effect.
I’m looking forward to continuing to create fun things with AI by my side!
