Salt ruins a lot of things. So if you really like your leather boots I would advice against wearing them when there is salt on the roads/sidewalks. If you buy weatherproofing spray then they might be ok with fresh snow and short walks.
I never heard of waxed jeans. I usually Cheap NFL Jerseys wore regular jeans with tights/legging underneath but I had to tuck them into the boots otherwise they would be watery mess once I was inside.
As far as a winter jacket goes, a lot of people wore the jackets that had fleece + shell. I own a Columbia one and it has lasted me a long time.
