Why was Florida tackle Phil Trautwein flagged for that personalfoul penalty? I couldn't figure it out from the press box. Whatever the reason, it ruined the Gators' momentum in the first quarter.
Trautwein's personalfoul penalty wasn't as costly as the one charged to UM lineman Orlando Franklin at the end of the first half. It led to Jeffrey Demps' blocked punt.

GumbyGator, this is an article from todays paper, I have copied just a small part to answer your stupid recruit remark. Recruits want to play in a pro style O not a Florida original spread run QB O, the Gators won this game but there is always the future. And the U future looks bright. Maybe we will meet again in a bowl game.

CORAL GABLES Miami coach Randy Shannon said the 263 loss at Florida on Saturday boosted his recruiting, and not just because the Hurricanes competed for three quarters as heavy underdogs.
Shannon didn mention Florida coach Urban Meyer name, but implied that Meyer decision to kick a field goal in the final seconds fired up some UM recruits who called him after the game.
Here a little tidbit for you TXCane, the Gators moved to 4 in the AP poll, I guess that final field goal fired up more people than just the recruits that ALREADY committed to the U. I just curious, is Jacory Harris not a better runner than passer???? I do believe I heard that comment being made when he was in the game, so does that really make him a traditional pro style QB running a pro style O??? I DON THINK SO! By the way, the Gators have had a top 3 recruiting class 3 years in a row, so I don think the style of offense has affected recruiting AT ALL. I already said that if Miami plays in ACC championship game (not win, just make the game), Shannon will have a good story to tell recruits. Any recruit that is "on the fence" will be leaning Gator after this game if they attended in person, but it is a long season and either team could potentially tank or shine in next 10 weeks to impact recruiting! Can protect a 45 loss season by saying "we have a coach with more class who doesn kick last minute FG Coach, what about the 5 losses?? Recruits don care about FG Shannon spin on the loss. BTW, S FL 2009 class isn as talented as 2008, so we won see the Canes getting a Top 5 class anyhow.
I never liked the "wait till next year" and the "future looks bright" statements for any team (let alone Art Monk Throwback Jersey the Canes). I said those type of quotes under both Zook and even Urban first year in 2005 everyone was saying this 2008 year would be the "best Gator team ever" because the "future is so bright" and now all know the Gators aren as good as we thought they would be (at least so far.).
BTW, did anyone read that the Canes actually have a more experienced team than Gators? Most Gator starters are only Sophomores, while Canes are Jr + Sr Somone on GatorCountry went through the entire roster of both teams AND the Starters and showed the Canes have more Seniority. In Canes defense, most of their "better" players are Freshman, but I found that very interesting analysis that GAtors are a younger team!
Thanks, Goody and Navarro for getting all the controversy started. Goody, you been covering the gators and always comparing them to the canes from preseason to now. It interesting how you all had plenty of coverage when Murphy talked trash but it not important or ho hum when he apologized. It also interesting how neither of you want to take credit for Randy Shannon coming into the game with the mindset that Meyer wanted to run up the score on his team. It is very interesting none of the other sports reporters had reported this. Would Shannon have been so upset if someone hadn said Meyer had planned on ruts before hand? Additionally, I like how both canes and noles are talking about how classless the field goal was yet, the handshake was justified. Remember canes fans, when the Noles baseball coach doesn shake your baseball coach hand it not classless but justified.
We both have children among our fan bases. Look at that " gumby" character. He is upset because CANE fans are upbeat despite losing to the gators. Question, why are we upbeat ? Because we played a great gator team tough for 3 quarters. This is a compliment to your team. No, we are not in the gator league right now, again, this is a compliment to UF.
Any calls in the game would be completely inconsequential if our offense was worth a damn.
The " gumby of the gator world will attack me for this, but I for one believe the CANES will have a nice season, based on what I saw Saturday night.
Shannon a hypocrite? Please, let look at that Texas A game. 2 minutes left, they are inside the 20 yard line, what should they do? Texas A had scored 10 unanswered points in the 4th, 2 minutes left you can run the clock out like Urban could have. Texas A fought til the end and scored a touchdown with 5 seconds left. Completely different then kicking a field goal with 23 seconds left. Doesn even compare. It was just classless what Meyer did being able to run the clock down, that is all. I really just think it shows you what kinda person he is, and let see how that effects him come February. We will just see.
