Cocktail Week contest to use Wisconsin ingredients
The second annual Great Sconnie SipOff, which challenges state bartenders to create original cocktails using all Wisconsin (or Wisconsinproduced) ingredients, this year takes place during the first Milwaukee Cocktail Week, on Sept. 23.
Competition organizer Dy Godsey, who writes the Fun Behind Bars blog, said, "Shining a light on Wisconsin's talented mixologists and the bounty of our state is an objective that is very dear to me."

Judges will be Kyle Cherek, host of the "Wisconsin Foodie" TV show, Jason Neu of Ray's Wine Spirits, and Lauren Peterson, winner of last year's competition.
Twenty audience members who each buy a wristband for $10 will serve as judges for a people's choice award.
Peterson, a bartender at Parkside 23 in Brookfield, won the SipOff in 2012 with the Belle City Collins: 1.5 ounces Nike Aldrick Robinson Jersey Rehorst gin, Aldrick Robinson Black Jersey .5 ounce housemade sour mix, 1 ounce Point 2012 Black Ale simple syrup, 1 ounce Capital Hop Cream Ale, 2 Door County cherries muddled with fresh cracked black pepper, and garnished with a brandypickled jalapeno and 2 cherries.
The deadline to enter this year's competition is midnight Sept. 17.
