Last weekend of Deadweek.
From tomorrow, FINALS WEEK will start.
Can't believe in a week we will be COMPLETELY done with this semester & in another 10 days I will be away from SF/Berkeley and within 2 weeks I will be gone from California and in PERU.
Just the thought really wants to make me cry...
I'm really really gonna miss this area.
Everything about Berkeley.
I-House:
the fact that at any time of the week, we can walk down the hall and walk into someone's room to have a drink of beer. Good times going into Zaki's room. Just to mess around with writing on his windows or drinking beer with Yehia and Cees...
Walking down the hall way and just saying Hey How are you to people.
People's doors open. Seeing what they are doing.
Emily's room always being open.
Sigmund's room sometimes being open but noticing it's super messy inside.

The messy gross library where people leave their banana peel and coffee cups lying around
text books being left on the desk all day
Randomly joining a conversation in the 7th floor lounge as we look out the window to see a nice view of San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge...
Going to the dining hall, wondering if any friends are around
Taking the elevator skeptical of whether it will stop at any time
Leaving my keys and cal card and my phone in the post box
Going to the great hall to just chat with people
Coffee hour where we can chat and relax for an hour per week on wednesdays
Putting time into creating an event or doing SORANBUSHI or something that just isn't about school work. Program Office. Spring Fest. Sunday Supper. MCing.
Running.
Running up the firetrail, at 8 am in the morning.
Tough but when you get up there it is the nicest view you see.
Clear beautiful sky.

Fresh Air.
A start of the day.

Seeing people run on the streets.
Sitting in front of the I-House steps just to chat, people smoking, or drinking beer infront of the i-house cafe
At night- seeing soority girls walking down the street in mini skirts barely any body part being covered
Frat guys playing on their water sliders in their front yard.
DKE in front of I-House.
I-House Cafe salads. Beet Salad. Mayan Salad.
The lights burning out in the room and studying 2 nights in the dark.
Dust floating.
Bananas in our room piled up. stacked. like stacked.
being able to call a friend to see them in 2 minutes in their room
Socializing- taking up more than half of the time living here
Saying how are you 3 times in a conversation because you have nothing else to talk about
saying how are you and ignoring them not waiting for an answer
roommate bad talks. or rumors. or gossip. or complaining.
complaining about roomamte deals. Hearing about them.
Complaining about dining hall food.
"I gained so much calories since I got here."
The food today is sooo bad.

Wi-fi not working.
Beer in the fridge. just beer.

Limo bus parties

everything is so visible
yet i've really grown into this place
the nature the people the environment the stress the fun the excitement
this experience in the past 10 months is UNBELIEVABLE.

The Education System in Japan and the US (or any other countries)
I've been seeing a great difference in the systems and qualities of education here and in japan.
I'm going to list down somethings that I want to point out before I forget.
1. Professors in University
やる気の違い。
例えば、Dan Mulhern. Leadershipの授業を前期取ってた先生かつ今回Independent Studyやってる先生だけど、本当に生徒思いで、Danって呼べるほどの中。まあそこまで行く教授はとっても珍しいんだけど、とにかく生徒に教えたい！っていう気持ちがある。
Professor Christine Parlourもそう。MBAの先生かつHAASのInvestmentsの教授。本当に知識豊富で、でも決してStuck Upではない。どんな質問をしてもちゃんと分かるまで説明してくれるし、Office Hourの時間が合わないようだったら、メールくれれば何かしらアレンジしましょっていう人で。それでもって、とってもLiberal。もしとってもSickでMidtermが受けられませんっていうことだったら、なんとかしてくれる。
とにかく生徒思いで教授魂が強い。ただの研究員ではなくて。
こういう姿勢が私たち生徒のやる気をあげてくれる。
2. English Education
日本人はまだまだ帰国子女の方がダントツに多い。
I-Houseを見ててもそうだけど、日本から来てても帰国子女じゃない人よりも帰国子女の方がダントツに多い。それは別によかったとしても、とにかく韓国人のレベルは本当に高い。自分も帰国子女だからいまいちやっぱり普通に日本で育ってきた人の身にはなれないけど、韓国人のふつうにしゃべれる感じ。Natalieとか、ちゃんとしたVocabulary使うし、本当にすごい。
じゃあどう変えたらいいのか。
今Frenchの授業取ってるけど、最初は全っっく何言ってるのか分からなかったフランス語でも今は先生の話してることが分からない事はわりと少ない。かなり慣れるし、何度も言うことはすごく印象に残る
例えば 「nes pas?」なんてすごいよく言う！ Right？っていう意味で
あとは、「C'est comme ca. 」が便利
とかとかフランス語はおいといて、Billingualに育てる為にはとにかく話す話す話す
が大事だと思う。って思った。文法も大事だけど、小学校４年生から英語教育が始まるのなら、英語の先生はNativeに近くなければいけないと思う。
3. Opportunities- volunteers/careers
アメリカはいろんなところで色んなOpportunityがある。
それは大胆にやってるCareer Fairだったり、EAP、ボランティアとか。
いくらでもある。
それに比べ日本の情報の少なさは異常。
Volunteer魂がまずとっても少ないよね。。
震災もあったし、これからのびてるくSectorだと思うけど、もうちょっとCharityとかを大事にするのは大事だと思う。。。学校内でのインターンシップとかもバークレーはあって、本当にすごい。
4. Hands on teaching - GSI
週に１回Lecture, １回Section/ Discussion 形式
すごいよいと思う！これは、抗議に行き、本を読むことによってDiscussionのセクションがすごい活性化する。しかもDiscussionでのParticipationとかが大事ってなってくるとみんなもちゃんと読んだり参加しよう！って気も起きるし。すごい大事だと思う。
前期とって、Greg- Polisci1のGSIなんてほんとにいいGSIだった！
メールでOutlineとか送ったりするとFeedbackくれるし、全体的にやっぱり生徒思い。
自分も生徒なのにぃ～！
5. Students Motivation
これはもうAll of the Aboveからの結果ですね。
はい。
そんなんで色んな意味で日本の教育システムは改正するべきポイントがいくつかある。
といってもアメリカもEdcuation Inequalityはとっても大きいけどね！！！
だからきっとそれぞれの国でもめてることはいっぱいあるんだと思う。
