Saddam Hussein’s execution
I can’t believe the execution has been carried out. As I wrote before, first of all I believe the trial was unfair. At least they should retry him in an international court, not in an American puppet, kangaroo court.
He might be a dictator and have done many cruel things during his life, and maybe he should do time. But he actually did a lot of good for the country as well, and kept things relatively in order- far better than it is now. Bush invaded another country and has been responsible for more deaths than Saddam. Hanging Saddam will not solve anything and will only make things more complicated or cause more trouble.
Boxing day
Boxing day is a big shopping day here, and usually we go shopping for clothes, shoes or bling and whatever else we want or in some cases don’t really want. However, this year we went shopping for gardening stuff. I felt a little that I’ve grown up. Or just simply getting older :P
That arvo we went to see “Happy Feet”. From the preview, I expected it would be like “Shrek”. It was good, and tried to send an environmental message. But it was sort of disappointing as well, it’s not because it was boring or anything, it was just different from what I expected and I thought some parts were sort of blunt.
It was the shortest long weekend I’ve ever had. I didn’t feel like I had 4 days off, it felt like a normal weekend. I can’t wait for this weekend.
Christmas Day
It was a muggy day. This year the temperature has not been that bad though… last year was scorcher and sweltering hot. I saw an article yesterday that said that snow fell in Victoria and Tasmania. It’s unbelievable, especially when this year has seen a record drought in Australia.
Anyway, we had barbie for lunch around PC’s brother’s place, they usually cook way too much. But I think they planned it so that they don’t have to cook for the rest of the week. The place was quite nice, it has a huge deck and a nice view. As usual for Xmas, I had too much to eat and couldn’t move for the rest of the day.
This year
On Friday a lot of businesses knocked off early, including mine - except for my team. Our suppliers buggered up again. I expected that it would happen from one particular supplier but not from the others. But on Friday it was literally Murphy’s Law. Until the last minute they stuffed up.
Anyway, I think this year has been a big year for me. I decided to stay here (I might go back to Japan next year though) finished Uni, started working again, and bought a house. I can’t believe that I did all that stuff this year. It seems that time flew by. I didn’t study English at all and my English ability has not come along as well as I’d have liked - so I will do that definitely next year… it feels like I say that every year though… but I think if my English gets better, I will have more confidence in myself so that’ll be good. I might think about making it my New Year resolution.
Friday night
I was going to see “Casino Royal” – the new James Bond movie - after work with PC and his colleague. But I got stuck at work and couldn’t make it. It’s been a few weeks in a row now that I haven’t been able to make plan with PC after work on Fridays.
One of our suppliers has never done their job as they are supposed to do. I can’t believe how people don’t care about doing their work properly. They always make excuses or lie, even when it’s so lame and obvious that they are lying. It doesn’t matter what it is. Even if it’s their fault, they still blame on me. I am really sick and tired of working with them.
I really need a holiday. I am planning to take some time off from work and go back to Japan in February. I can’t wait.
Xmas party
On Friday morning, I went to see a doctor to check up on my eye. I was pretty sure that he would not let me wear contact lenses for PC’s Christmas party. But he said the ulcer in my eye was dissolving really well and I could wear contact lenses for the party. You have no idea how much I wanted to hear that AND how much I didn’t think he would say it.
There were more than 100 people at the party and most of them dressed up really nicely. This coming Saturday is my company’s Xmas party. I wasn’t really thinking to dress up for it, but some of my colleagues are going to wear a cocktail dress so I’m not really sure what I’m gonna wear and am thinking to go for it and dress to the nines.
Anyway, we are doing a secret Santa at work. Usually you know who you are going to buy something for, but this time we put presents under the tree and the receptionist will write down a number and everyone then give presents out by lottery. So you don’t know if your present is for a guy or a gal. On Sunday I bought a present for my secret Santa, so at least I could take one thing off my mind.
Shopping
Over the last month, I have been shopping around. Today I bought a gorgeous pair of silver shoes. This coming Saturday we have PC’s work Christmas party and the week after is mine. I don’t care much about my work Xmas party since it is at some function centre or something. But PC’s one will be held at a hotel and the theme is black, red and silver. I bought a black dress for the event; I wanted to wear a red dress but I couldn’t find the right one, and I was going to wear a black pair of shoes which I bought a few weeks ago. But when I saw the silver shoes, oh my god, they were really gorgeous. While I was trying on the shoes, every women walked by stared at the shoes. Not a glance, they stared at them. I knew the shows would kill me to wear all night, but I couldn’t let them go. I’m hoping my eye will be healed by then so that I can wear my contact lenses.
Borat
It’s been a busy few weeks at work. I was really buggered after work and couldn’t make it to the gym at all. Last Monday I felt something was wrong with my left eye, and went to see a doctor and he found an ulcer and sent me to a specialist. He was concerned about the ulcer and prescribed me some eye drops and asked to see me everyday of the week to check the progress. It was really frightening since I thought it might be a cataract. But on Friday the doctor said it seemed to be getting better; it was such a relief to hear that.
Anyway, we went to see Borat two weeks ago. It’s a story of a fictional Kazakhstan reporter exploring the US. I didn’t know but there was a show of him in UK. It was hilarious. It can be really offensive and sometimes I though it was way too much. But it’s a joke. If you take things like this seriously, you would be better off avoiding it, as I’m sure you would get offended. It’s not a show or movie I wanna see every week, but it’s funny once in a while.
VAREKAI
On Thursday night we went to see “VAREKAI”. It was really fabulous, there is no word for it. The acrobatics, costumes, comedy, everything was fantastic.
I heard some of the performers come from long lines of families in the business, but three-quarters of the circus cast are former athletes including a number who have performed at the Olympics. I didn’t know but Cirque de Soleil has 700 performers from 40 nations in 11 productions.
If you have any chance to go to see them, don’t miss it. It’s really worth it.
Lunch
My colleague and I were planing to go to a café for cake yesterday. When we got there, we found a new Chinese restaurant had just opened next to the café, and we decided to have lunch there and head to the café for dessert afterwards. We ordered to eat there, but the waiter misunderstood and arranged take-away for us. After we told him about the misunderstanding, he brought a plate of meat rolls as compensation. I had chicken curry and my colleague had sweet and sour, it came out on huge plates like it was for dinner, so we shared. Mine was average but hers was good. I think they should have a lunch menu though, the servings were way too much.
On the way back to work, she bought a piece of chocolate and some scratch-it tickets. She bought 5 and won only 4 bucks, but at least she won at the sweeps we had for the Melbourne cup. I didn’t win anything. Anyway she needed some coins to pay for a raffle – we always have a raffle on Friday at work, so I gave her 4 bucks and she gave me the winning scratch-it ticket she got during lunch time. I bought a magazine with it. Anyway, we are going back to the café for a cake sometime soon.
