
It contains Pre-school, Primary and lower secondary education(grundskole), Upper secondary education(ungdomsuddannelser), Vocational education and training, Higher education(videregående uddannelser), and Adult learning. Pre-school is optional, and children prepare to go to primary school in pre-school. Primary and lower secondary education is compulsory. It doesn’t matter whether you study at school or home. It starts the age of six and children go to this school until the age of sixteen. The first stage is grade one to six, and the second stage is grade seven to nine. Primary and lower secondary school consists of the Folkeskole, and private elementary schools. The Folkeskole includes a year of pre-school class and a year of 10th grade. The average school contains 320 pupils and the average of number of the student is 19 per class. Children can study for free at Folkeskole. In private elementary school, there are about 13% of all children at basic level. To go to the private school costs small fee. After graduated from primary and lower secondary school, almost students go to upper secondary school or vocational education. Upper secondary education is not compulsory. Students between the age of fifteen and twenty go to this school. It usually takes two to four years and the charge is free. Students have a wide range of programs to choose from. The program of vocational education is like a sandwich. Students do practical training in a company and also teaching in vocational school. The higher education is the stage of learning that occurs at university and university college. Higher education includes teaching, research, and exacting applied work. Adult education is to give the opportunity of learning for adults. Entrance requirement is being resident or holding a job in Denmark. Through the program, they can get new skill and to becoming more flexible on labor market.
