Reds 4, Phillies 2

Brandon Phillips hit a tiebreaking two-run single in the eighth inning as hosts Cincinnati downed Philadelphia to snap a five-game losing streak.

The Reds, who were held to two runs and five hits by Phillies starter Cliff Lee through seven innings, jumped all over Jeremy Horst (0-1) in the eighth.

Bronson Arroyo (2-1) earned the win despite allowing Chase Utley's pinch-hit, two-run homer in the eighth that knotted the game at two.

Red Sox 3, Rays 2

Mike Napoli doubled off the left-field wall to score Dustin Pedroia from first base in the bottom of the ninth inning as Boston completed a three-game sweep of visiting Tampa Bay.

Pedroia walked with one out to set up Napoli's hit off reliever Joel Peralta (0-1), which made Andrew Bailey (1-0) a winner after he had blown the save in the top of the ninth.

Boston starter Ryan Dempster pitched seven strong innings, allowing two hits and one run.

Evan Longoria homered for the Rays, who lost for the sixth time in seven games.

Nationals 10, Marlins 3

Ryan Zimmerman homered and had four RBIs and Washington racked up 16 hits while routing hosts Miami to snap a three-game losing streak.

Ian Desmond had four hits, Tyler Moore recorded three RBIs and Jordan Zimmermann pitched well for the third straight outing for the Nationals. The Marlins drop to 2-11 overall and 1-6 at home.

Zimmermann (3-0) struck out six and allowed three runs, six hits and one walk while pitching his second career complete game.

Twins 8, Angels 2

Joe Mauer had four hits and three RBIs to lead hosts Minnesota in the opener of the three-game series on another chilly night at Target Field.

Trevor Plouffe doubled and homered for the Twins, Pedro Florimon had two hits and two RBIs and Kevin Correia (1-1) worked seven innings, allowing two runs and scattering eight hits.

Plouffe homered to lead off the fourth and Mauer went deep to start the fifth, giving the Twins a 4-2 lead. Mauer added RBI singles in the sixth and eighth innings.

Cardinals 10, Pirates 6

Allen Craig had three RBIs and St. Louis scored seven runs in the second inning with two outs to crush nemesis James McDonald and hosts Pittsburgh.

McDonald (1-2), who allowed four hits with 13 strikeouts in 13 shutout innings against the Cardinals last season, allowed eight runs (three earned) and eight hits in 1 2/3 innings.

Blue Jays 4, White Sox 3

J.P. Arencibia and Maicer Izturis homered and Mark Buehrle prevailed in his first game against his former team as Toronto won the opener of a seven-game homestand.

Buehrle (1-2) overcame a shaky first inning to earn his first victory in a Blue Jays uniform, limiting Chicago to a pair of runs on nine hits over 6 1/3 innings.

Dayan Viciedo led the Chicago attack with three hits and an RBI while Paul Konerko and Alexei Ramirez also drove in runs.

After Chicago cut the deficit to one in the eighth, Casey Janssen, the fourth Toronto pitcher, struck out a pair in a perfect ninth inning for his fourth save.

Mets at Rockies, postponed

The opener of the four-game series was postponed because of snow, which began falling in the Denver area on Monday morning.

The game was scheduled to be made up on Tuesday at 3:10 p.m. ET as part of a day-night doubleheader.

Athletics 11, Astros 2

Nate Freiman capped a six-run first inning with his first major-league home run and hosts Oakland routed Houston in the series opener.

Tommy Milone (3-0) allowed two runs over 6 2/3 innings and won his fifth consecutive start dating to last season.

Jed Lowrie had two hits and four RBI and Brandon Moss drove in three runs for Oakland, who at 10-4 are off to their best start since 1992. Oakland are 10-0 when scoring four or more runs.

Padres 6, Dodgers 3

Eric Stults hit a three-run homer and pitched six solid innings as visiting San Diego defeated Los Angeles to snap a five-game losing streak.

Alexi Amarista walked and Cameron Maybin had a two-out single before Stults smashed a booming shot to center off Chad Billingsley in the second inning for his first career homer.

The contest was tied at three before San Diego drew a bases-loaded walk in the seventh where they scored a second run. The Padres added a ninth-inning insurance run on a sacrifice fly by Kyle Blanks.
