I don't know why.
But I had this weird dream when I was sleeping in my parent's house
the other morning.
Some stranger is taking the porcelain duck, which I bought about 15 years ago
and placed by the orange tree in our garden, holding it in his arms.
"That's our duck!"
I want to tell him so, but a huge hesitation in me won't let my voice
come out.
So I am just watching.
That's it.
And for about an hour after I woke up from this dream, I believed
unconsciously that this actually happened in the recent past.
I went out and started to walk past our garden, thinking
"Ahh, right, someone took the duck."
I looked askance at the spot where the duck used to be,
and the duck was there like it has always been.
I had never thought about the duck nor even remembered
I had had it before that morning.
And yet I was so happy that it was there.
Just having been there for 15 years was enough to make the duck
an imperative element of the garden.
And I was happy about the fact that there was really no bad man
who took the duck away from our garden.
And then, I started to worry that someone might steal it for real
someday.
But who wants that dirty duck weathered and exposed to sun
for 15 years? My intellect tells me: No one.
But that doesn't stop me worrying.
I think I have added one more thing to my list of things I care about
because of that dream.
