How to Build an LED Light
Building a simple LED light can be a great project for kids or adults just learning electronics. An LED light can be built using a simple circuit with an LED, a resistor and a battery. Once the LED light is soldered together, it can be placed in virtually any plastic case that has room for the battery and an opening for the LED light. The resistor is used to regulate the flow of current through the LED. Too much current can permanently damage the LED.

To test the circuit, use a solderless breadboard. Afterward, the components may be soldered onto a regular breadboard, and the circuit enclosed inside a plastic case that has openings for the LED and the battery.

Attach the red lead and black leads of the battery holder to the circuit board. Connect one end of the 1k resistor to the red lead. Do this by placing a jumper wires between the holder and the diode.

Place the LED inside the circuit. Connect the free end of the resistor to the positive side of one LED. This is the side usually indicated by a longer lead at the bottom. Inside the plastic casing, at the top, the positive lead is also thinner.
Wire the negative side of the LED to the black lead of the battery holder, and connect the battery to the holder. The LED will light up.

Disconnect the negative side of the LED from the battery holder, and remove the battery. Insert the second LED into the breadboard, making sure that its leads are in different lines or slots. Attach the positive side of the second LED to the negative side of the first LED.

Wire the negative side of the second LED to the black lead of the battery holder, and add the battery. Both of the LEDs will light up.
