Dell has entered the 13-inch Ultrabook races, officially, by launching their 13.3-inch Dell XPS 13 laptop computer. The new XPS 13 starts at $999, just like most other 13-inch Ultrabooks. To differentiate themselves from the pack Dell has designed their 13-inch Ultrabook to be the same size as a 12-inch notebook, Dell was able to accomplish this feat by dramatically decreasing the size of the bezel that surrounds the laptops display.
However the bezel isn’t the only thin part of this notebook, the laptop itself measures only 6mm at its thinnest point and a meer 18mm at its thickest. And of course the laptop is constructed out of lightweight, and stylish Aluminum, but Dell has also worked in Corning’s tough Gorilla Glass into the laptop by adding the crack resistant glass over the XPS 13′s LED back-lit display. For luxury and more durability Dell has also added carbon fiber into the XPS 13′s design, the bottom part of the laptop is made from carbon fiber.
The general design of the XPS 13 isn’t really akin to any of Dell’s other laptops, surprisingly. Dell has been known to stick to one general design for their XPS branded laptops, but unlike the XPS 14z and 15z which look-alike the XPS 13 has a style of it’s very own. I like the XPS 13′s wedge design.
With the $999 model (free shipping, but no tax included in $999 price) Dell has included a 1.6GHz Intel Core i5-2467M dual-core processor, 4GB of DDR3 RAM (system memory), a 128GB Solid State Drive, Intel HD Graphics 3000, 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0, HD audio, a T-Mobile 4G Mobile WiFi HotSpot with 90 days of contract free data service (after 90 days you will have to pay a fee to use the hotspot), Dell online data backup services free for one year (100GB of storage space), Adobe Photoshop Elements 9.0 + Adobe Premiere Elements 9.0, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, and a 6-cell (47 WHr) battery like Dell RD859 Battery

You can choose to purchase two other pre-configured models which will cost you either $1,299 if you want more storage (256GB SSD) and $1,499 if you want more storage (256GB) and a faster processor (1.70GHz Intel Core i7-2637M dual-core processor). Personally I think each configuration is a bargain considering the Dell XPS 13′s features and how other Ultrabooks are priced for the same features.
