Dear members of The Boston Conservatory community,
This morning finds us all in a quiet and contemplative frame of mind, and I hope every member of our community is finding a meaningful way forward. We spent considerable time last night discussing whether to remain open today, and the decision was grounded in our belief that the Conservatory community should afford students, faculty and staff both a place and the resources to help process what they’re experiencing. Some faculty members will choose to do that in their class setting, some may elect to direct students to our student affairs and counseling staff, who are on-hand in the student center all day to assist both privately and in group settings.
We know that some you are still concerned about safety; please be assured that you will not be penalized if you decide to remain at home. The majority of our community, however, is looking to us as a gathering place to be together and continue our work in the comfort and caring that this community provides.
Artists bring a very special compassion and resiliency to their practice. We, and all of our audiences in Boston and beyond, count on those qualities.
