We should not trust people who in a tasteless outfit
In recent years, fashion is symbolically a way of personal expression.
Of course, everyone has the right to wear whatever they like. However, in Japan there are many people who dress in such unique fashion that it has gone beyond the standard of common sense. I suppose, I will have to call them thoughtless. They confuse freedom with self-indulgence. In most cases, they are unanimous in saying, “I have the right to wear anything I want because it is my off time.”If that is the case, does that mean that it is acceptable to wear anything we want outside working hours? In my opinion, the answer is No. Even if, it is not working hours, we should be conscious about time, place, and occasion, especially when with a company. In that way, we need a minimal standard of manner in dressing up. If I may put it in the strongest terms, I think we should not trust people who wear fashion without common sense.
The first reason being that one’s attire not only express ourselves, but influences the image of his company, school or wherever one belongs to as well as the atmosphere, that is why almost all businessmen are required to wear suits during working hours in Japan. A company cannot allow their image to be damaged by an individual’s manner or fashion. If companies allow the dress code to be within range of good sense, or as long as it is business like, given too vague an order. There is the possibility that the employees of the company may in disarray since the standard is different for each individual as well as gender and generation. Therefore, there should be a standard for fashion as companies may lose their client’s trust. This also applies to high rank hotels or restaurants. If we wear too casually, we could spoil the class of the place. For school fashion may not have an influence on a student’s record however it influences the impression on people from outside of school.
Another reason is that, fashion is a basis for evaluation. As it shows personal character, we can judge whether or not a person has normal social behavior or can show respect to other people. According to common data, first impression is decided by 90% on their appearance, it is exactly why we should care about how we dress. Some people say that you should not judge people by their appearance, but I think character itself is reflected through fashion. Even if it may not matter during school days, as a working adult in society it will influence one’s personal evaluation from the company.
In addition to fashion is one of the ways to show respect to someone. People who enjoy fashion for only themselves seem, to me, like a selfish act. Then it would be difficult to defend someone, if people may think that person is un-thoughtful or uncooperative. For a date, being careful about one’s clothes is one expression of affectionate love. In case of having dinner with senior co-workers, we should not embarrass or bring disgrace on senior co-workers with one’s fashion. It is not a matter of manner, it is etiquette. If a person does not have etiquette, they are looking down on others.
In conclusion, we need at least minimal standard of manner when dressing up. A person who cannot follow this manner, possibly cannot respect others. Hence we should not trust these kinds of people. Japan is watched as a leading-edge in unique fashion from all over the world. We should be highly conscious of and set an example of the real meaning of fashion where wearing clothing is not only for ourselves, but for others.
