Hello, I am studying about Consumer Behavior now.
Let me tell you my thinking of Consumer Behavior.
There are many reasons why consumers buy what they do and it’s the marketer’s job to understand and manipulate those reasons.
For example, consumers may buy a product by how trustworthy they think the company is, or how large it is.
They may buy the product by where it was made or what it’s made from, there are many more reasons that the marketer researches to understand for effective marketing.
Through the decades consumers have had different reasons for buying goods and are continuing to change even today.
Researching these changes is important for marketing the product that consumers want.
With the added technology of the internet, cell phones and T.V. the means of spreading advertising has increased greatly. This has increased the opportunity to manipulate the global market.
Walt Disney created his company with the aim to create happiness.
The company over time has adapted and changed to match the consumer wants.
For example, the construction of Disney’s Animal Kingdom occurred during a time where environmental issues became important to many consumers.
In Japan marketing towards good health is very effective as the culture for good health is very strong.
For example the cup noodle (Harusame Noodles) changed the packaging promoting good health, this made sales climb ten times higher, even though it was the same noodles.
Many drinks in Japan are made out of vegetables as health is more important than taste.
Convenience is also a big factor in Japan, as in the USA, for example once the pips where removed from the sour plum sales sky rocketed.
Thanks,
Arthur
