不幸なことに，登山者の数の急激な増加は深刻な問題を招きました。山の斜面はめちゃめちゃ散らかってしまいました。実は日本の自慢の種である環境が，膨大な量のごみと廃棄物によって傷つけられたのです。
しかし，1990年代後半にはついに多くのボランティアの人たちが，山の斜面を綺麗にすることにとりかかりました。彼らの努力のおかげで上の方はほとんどごみがありません。
ですがもしごみの状況が再び悪くなれば，富士山が世界遺産のリストから除かれる可能性がまだあります。私たちの遺産を維持し，次世代に伝えるかどうかは今の私たち次第なのです。
