24年間乗ってきた自転車がパンクした
もぅ～限界だ
修理はあきらめ新しい自転車を買う事にした。
いつもの所にポツンと置いてある自転車。
いつの間にか錆びついてボロボロに。。
あーぁ。名前でもつけてあげときゃ良かったなぁって思う
この自転車の前の自転車には「キャラメルマン3号」って名前がついていた。
可愛い名前で気に入っていた
遠い昔…高校生の時に付けた自転車の名前
それに比べて
24年前は仕事に追われていて
自転車に名前を付けるなんて。。
そんなくだらなくって…
楽しい事は全然してなかったなぁ
そして
私は経験から知っている
名前を付けるって案外楽しいってことを
例えば
近所の野良猫を
「部長」って呼び始めてから
私はちょっとだけそのネコに会うのが楽しくなった
そう言えば
英語の教室を開く前に
小学生を観察しようと思いつき
「児童クラブ」（学童保育）の指導員のアルバイトに行ったことがあった
そこで、ちょっと退屈している子供達を連れて校庭に行った
そして、そこにあった全ての木を調査した
例えば
木の幹に耳を当てて中の音を聞いてみる
触って感触を確かめる
周りの土の様子を見てみる
（あらかじめ被れる木かどうか調べておく必要が有ったが）
そんなヘンテコ調査をしながら
私達は木にニックネームを付けていった
子供達は木だけではなくフェンスや壁にも名前を付け始め
素敵な地図を作ってくれた
ただの校庭が、地図を作ってみたら宝島みたいに見えて
楽しかったぁ
名前を付けるのって楽しいなぁ
で、思い出すのが自分の名前
クリスマスに生まれた私に付けてくれた名前
クリスマスの日
物凄い寒さの中で木々は葉を落とし
地味に立っていたそうだ
でもどんな小さな木でも
その枝は空に伸びて手を広げているように見えて
そんな小さな木のようにと…
名付けてくれた「貴志枝」って名前
大切にしたいなって思う
そうだよね
小さい木でも十分なんだなぁって思う。
小さい木でも名前が有って
ニックネームとかも有るかもで
小さい木からも
たっぷり幸せをもらえる
そんな幸せを大切に出来る
私でいたいなぁ
って今日は古い自転車を見ながら思えた。
どんな制約がある暮らしになったとしても
「楽しむ気持ち」
育みたいですね

I got a flat tire on my twenty-four-year-old bike. Obviously, it is time to replace her with a new one. I saw my rusty bike standing alone at the usual place. I should have named her. Before this bike, my bike had a name which was “Caramel Man the Third”. It was a perfect name, not too girly but sounded funny and cute. I was a high school girl when I named it. Whereas twenty-four years ago, I was too busy at the office to do such a fun activity. From my experience, I can say just naming something is enjoyable. Actually, a stray cat around my house is called Manager by me. Unfortunately, he is never interested. Before I opened my school, I wanted to know about elementary school students’ behavior, so I got a part-time job at an after-school childcare center. Actually, I saw some kids got bored with their everyday routine there. So I took them to the schoolyard and started examining all the trees. We put our ears on the trees and carefully listened to the inside of the tree, felt the texture, and checked the soil around them. We found each tree had a unique feature. After that, we gave the trees their nicknames, one by one. The kids made a fantastic map and started naming everything, not only trees but the fences or small paths, etc. It was really fun. Their imaginations made them happy. Today my old bike told me not to forget enjoyment. I must not be too busy to enjoy naming. Talking of naming, my name always comes to mind, because I like my name. I was born on a Christmas day. It was a time of the year all trees lose their leaves. My mother saw dignity in them and named me Kishie. Under severe circumstances, even a small tree stretches its branches toward the sky quietly. Thanks, mum! It is a nice name. Anyway, a small tree is good enough to make us happy. Let’s enjoy giving nicknames to trees, roads, your belongings, or whatever ordinary things are around you. Even when we are living in a restricted situation, I believe we can enjoy ourselves.
