We saw this one coming! Betty is fed up with Player Magazine, especially their "chicks in bras" interpretations of her latest story idea. She decides to give Daniel a piece of her mind, and catches him making notes on Wilhelmina's plans for the relaunch issue of Mode. You can take the “player” out of the posh high-rise office, but…
Betty takes Daniel's book of notes and shows it to Alexis, pointing out that Daniel actually still wants to help the magazine. Alexis, in turn, gives the notes to Wilhelmina, who immediately recognizes Daniel's handwriting. However, we all know this is one high-strung diva who won’t have the Prada pulled over her eyes! Wilhelmina realizes Betty is the real way to get back at Daniel and recruits her back over to the Mode side—along with a generous raise.
Betty takes the job and, just when we thought her day couldn’t get any worse, is soon under the guidance of Marc. This flamboyant gent has never been happier—at least until Betty impresses a cosmetics client, gets everything on Wilhelmina's impossible task list (including a tiara worn by Catherine the Great) and becomes the new favorite assistant. Ouch! Sorry, Marc, but looks to us like you’ve been replaced.
Meanwhile, Daniel learns that his son’s grandparents want DJ back in France. He mulls over what to do, fearing a massive custody battle. Eventually he asks DJ what he wants to do, and, in a tearjerker moment—hey, we always cry at least once during this show—Daniel's son decides to stay in America with his father.
Tony, Hilda's married boyfriend, stops by Mode to see if Betty has gotten the signed issue of Player that he'll use to raise money at the school auction. Marc and Amanda ogle the buff gym teacher while Betty disappears to grab the issue. Amanda pickpockets Tony's cell phone (we love this resourceful girl), and when Betty returns, Amanda shows her a series of photos on the device of Tony making out with a stewardess.
Betty later confronts Hilda about the stewardess and learns that her sister has been having an affair with a married man. Hmmm. Do you think Betty really has that much room to judge on the romance front?
Back at Mode, Betty is trying to set up Wilhelmina’s opulent relaunch party when Marc gives her two sacks of letters to shred. Betty reads the letters—all of which praise Daniel's editorial prowess— and then shows them to her former boss in a bid to get him to go back to Mode.
At the party, Betty gives her two-week notice to Wilhelmina. But Claire Meade tells her to stick around. Alexis then fires Wilhelmina as Editor-in-Chief, stating that the new Mode issue’s first day sales are the "worst selling in months." Willie, however, is free to stay on as Creative Director. Daniel is reinstated as top editor, and Claire, now noticeably drunk, pushes down the life-sized statue of Wilhelmina to demonstrate the changing of power. Guess you can take the player out of Player, after all!
Betty then figures it out: She was set up. Marc gave her those letters knowing she'd take them to Daniel, and thus he would be able to get Wilhelmina all to himself once again. We knew those two conniving peas in a pod wouldn’t be separated for long.
In a shocking moment, as the party is ending a very pregnant Christina is pushed down the back stairwell—and left for dead. Yikes!
