My husband and I took a trip to Gotemba and Izu this weekend.
We took turns driving a great distance. On the first day, we went watch a car race of sports cars at Fuji Speedway, a world class circuit in Gotemba. The speed and sound were more amazing than we ever imagined!
Then we went window-shopping at Gotemba Outlet in the evening.
On the second day, we went southward to Atami via Hakone Skyline. The town was so hilly and we saw a lot of signs that says "Use Low Gear" anywhere.
I've heard Atami used to one of the most popular destinations for honeymooners. We visited "Omiya no Matsu" (Omiya's pine tree), which is famous for a tragic love story of a young Japanese couple. The story was written by Koyo Ozaki, one of the most famous novelist during the Meiji Era. I was surprised to learn the story had helped Atami to be such a famous destination for sightseeing before!
Then we went southward to central Izu until we reached Jouren no Taki (Jouren fall). The scenery moved me because it reminded me of a picture of my grandparents, which was taken in front of the fall maybe in their 50's.
We enjoyed several free samples at a souvenir store, which made us full. We bought "Sakura Ebi no Mai"for our family and his coworkers.
Our final destination was a fishing port era in Numazu and we had sooooo good "Kaisen-don" for lunch, a bowl of rice topped with sashimi such as pretty thick slices of tuna, sea urchin, and salmon caviar. It was 1450 yen with crab miso soup included. One bite leads to another... We think that was one of the best food we had ever had.
