Do you know where is the Starbucks's name derived from?

When the name was decided, one of the founder, Gordon Bowker tried to name after "Pequod", which is a

novel "Moby Dick."

However, his friend, Terry Heckler who is a creative artist opposed that idea.

Then he said "No one's goint to drink a cup of Pee-quod."

It sounds like "Pee" and "Quod."

And, he had been looked for a good name related to a mountain in Seattle.

Then, he found Mt. Rainier located in Seattle and there was a mining site whose name was "Starbo."

Mt. Rainier, at a height of 4392 meters, has a similar shape to Mt. Fuji in Japan.

It is a symbolic mountain in Seattle like Mt. Fuji.

They repeated discussions and one of the founder, Jelly Baldwin found a interesting fact.

The name of a first mate in Pequod was "Starbuck" and he loved coffee by chance.

These ideas finally resulted in the current Starbucks's name.

You got it?

For these reasons, the current name was made.
