Speech at 6/16 RallyIsraa Albinfalah (International student, Osaka University)When I am sometimes asked to speak for Palestine at these protests, I usually say no. I say no because I feel unprepared, because it’s hard to find the right words to improvise on a topic so close to my heart. This time I said yes, but as I took my pen to write my ideas, I went blank. How do I put words to the horrors of an ongoing genocide? How do I describe the suffering that happens every second I speak, every minute of this protest? How do I write about a community that has been fighting for over 76 years to break free from occupation, apartheid, and to aspire toward liberation? Meanwhile, I sit in a comfortable apartment in an extremely safe country and area, with air conditioning, with no risk of seeing my house demolished in front of my eyes, of losing a parent or two, of having to carry my child’s dead body in a plastic bag, or witnessing my siblings killed next to me.FALASTINE FALASTINE FALASTINEThis is what we should all hear, this is what we should all be shouting. My name is Israa Albinfalah. I am exchange student in Japan and have been here since September. I am originally from Bahrain, a small island in the Middle East. From my youngest age, I was taught about the Israeli occupation and the ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian people. However, as an Arab student in a foreign country, far from where I am from, surrounded by different cultures, when I reached Japan, I felt completely disconnected from the cause and from everything that was happening just a plane away. It is thanks to all of you – the mobilization, the protests, seeing the old, the young, the students, the workers, the musicians, the dancers – everyone coming together for one cause and for history not to repeat itself. What they chant is true: “the people united can never be defeated.” “No one is free until Palestine is free.” You, people of Japan, have made me feel the power of solidarity, the strength of a community united against oppression. You have reminded me that even in the face of unimaginable brutality, hope and resistance are alive and that it is our duty to remind each other that the fight for Palestine, for the people in Gaza, for the ones in the West Bank, is not just about land or politics: it is about humanity, justice, and the unyielding spirit of a people who refuse to be broken.Today, tomorrow, and every other moment we all come together, let us remember the names of those who have been silenced. The journalists who have been killed and those sacrificing their lives to show us the truth. The faces of those who have been erased. The lives that have been stolen. The dreams that have been shattered and the children that are forced to grow up before their age. Raising awareness is the least we can do and it is not enough. We need to act and continuously advocate and fight until every Palestinian child, woman and man can live in peace. So they can live free from fear, apartheid, occupation, mass killing, genocide and violence.https://photos.app.goo.gl/LbzabQAM56vo5vKNA・・・・・・・・・・・・・・日本語06・16集会発言イスラ・アルビンファラ(大阪大学留学生)このようなイベントでパレスチナのためにスピーチするよう頼まれることがあるが、私はたいてい断る。 https://photos.app.goo.gl/LbzabQAM56vo5vKNA
