美しさとは？
What’s Beauty?
今日からテストが始まりました。
The exams started today.
みんな真剣に取り組んでいますね。
Students are taking exams seriously.
面白いことにこの2学期の試験は郡(district)のテストです。日本でも採用したいです。
Interestingly, this term-two exam is by the district. I want to apply it in Japan.
さて、生徒たちがやってきて、
「袖をまくってほしい」と。
By the way, some girls came to me and asked me to roll up my sleeve.
「なんで？」と聞くと、
「肌がみたい」と。
I said “why” and they replied
“I want to see your skin”.
好奇心（興味あるの）かなと思い、言われた通り袖をまくると、ある生徒が「Ｋの肌は美しい」と。
I think it’s due to their curiosity and I rolled up my sleeve as they said. Then one student told me that your skin is beautiful.
そして「私たちの肌は美しくない」と。
And she continued “My skin is not beautiful”.
「なぜ？」と聞くと、答えはなく。
理由や答えはあるはずもなく…
I asked why and they never answered. The answers and reasons will never exist.
「絶対そんなことはない」とは言ったものの、納得するはずもなく…
I said “Absolutely Not”. But they did not agree.
いつか、どこかで価値観が刷り込まれてしまうのだと思います。植民地支配や人種の問題は我々が思う以上に根深くて、難しい問題なのだろうと思います。もちろん彼らが思春期ということもあると思いますが。
自信をもって生きてほしいです。
Our values would be imprinted somewhere and sometime during growing up. I really thought that the issues of colonization or races are serious and more difficult than I have imagined. Of course, because they are teenagers, they might think so.
I hope that they live with their pride and confidence.
美しさとは何でしょうか？
What is beauty?
心ですかね。
Beauty might be in each person’s mind.
