Have you thought about the people protecting you from danger? How trustful "police" is?
I was watching the TV the other day. Morley Robertson, a famous journalist in Japan, said an interesting comment about the Black Lives Matter movement. He said "in America, it takes more hours to become a plumber than to become a policeman."
Apparently, cops are required to train for at least 620 hours. However, a journeyman plumber license requires to complete a 4-year registered apprenticeship program or 576 hours of classroom training, and proof of 3,850 hours of commercial and 3,850 hours of residential experience as a journeyman or apprentice plumber. THEN, you need to pass an exam...I mean...WOW
This remembered me about my old situation when I accidentally called the police. I did not know we have an auto-ring system in Japanese police that you do not need to press the ringing button to call. They will call for you automatically once you pressed #110.
I panicked and hung up the phone without saying anything. Soon after, they called me back to make sure if I was ok.
When I thought about how much Japanese people believe in police officers, I realized that we do not even try to think about owning a weapon to protect ourselves. In fact, we do think the police are trustworthy that they secure our safety.
On the other hand, it seems American police officers sometimes can be too personal about their jobs. I see some violent videos on the internet from the Black Lives Matter movement got aggressive because of the police officers' personal reactions.
While the remaining safety of a nation requires some power like the police to rule people, they always have to be equally fair to everyone.
Behind the fairness, there might require some practice of matureness.
Either way, a society must be a place where everyone feels safe because safety needs are a part of physical needs according to Maslow's hierarchy needs of which a society can provide for a person for a better life.

いきなりですが、あなたを守ってくれている人々について考えたことはありますか？
どれだけ警察という存在に頼っているかを考えたことはありますか？
ついこの間テレビを見ていて、ジャーナリストのモーリー・ロバートソンが言っていたある言葉が少し気になりました。
彼は「アメリカでは警察官になるよりも、水道工事作業員になるほうがより多くの演習時間が必要」と言っていました。
調べによると、警察になるには最低620時間の演習が必要なのに対し、一人前の水道工事作業員になるためには、4年間の公認修行プログラムまたは567時間の座学の後、見習い水道工事作業員としての3850時間の就業と3850時間の住宅経験の証明が必要だそう。そうしてようやく試験に合格すると晴れて一人前の水道工事作業員となれるのだそうです。

話がそれましたが、このときに私はある昔の話を思い出しました。
昔、私が小さな頃、日本には警察や救急車を呼ぶと自動発信の機能があることを知らずに、間違えて110番を押してしまったことがありました。その時はパニクってしまって発信した後すぐに切ってしまい、すると直後に、安否を確認する折り返しがかかってきました。
少し、日本人がどれだけ日本の警察を信頼しているか考えてみてください。
すると不思議なことに、日本人は自己防衛のための武器を持っておこうとかそもそも考えもしないということに気付きませんか？そうなんです。日本人は圧倒的な警察に対する信頼をおいているんです。
一方アメリカでは、警察官がたまに個人の感情に流されて仕事をしている場面がある気がします。今激化を進めているBlack Lives Matterのでも活動でも、ネットに上がっているアメリカの警官と市民の攻撃的なやり取りの中には、警官の個人的な負の感情による反応が原因で激化しているようなものも目にします。
一国の治安維持のためには時には警察という行政の力で治めないといけないこともあるかもしれません。しかしそれと同時に、行政はすべての国民にとって平等でフェアでなければいけません。そして、平等の裏には、冷静さと成熟さが常に求められるのかもしれません。
どちらにしろ、社会というものはすべての国民が安心して過ごせる場所であるべきです。
そして、マズローの法則によると、安心欲求は物理的欲求のうちに含まれていて、国民1人1人のよりよい社会生活のためにために社会（政府）が供給できるものであるということです。
