we have a supreme volcano plus wood burning insert that was

Will : Can you start a fire and watch it then have someone start opening a door a little a time see if the house has negative air pressure and the combustion fire has no air to draw from no make up air in other words, fireplaces are generally leaky but inserts are tight tight, you probably have great insulation in your house and even have it too tight, many people are doing this as the cost of fuel keeps going up, you insulate, get good windows, sealed doors all that, next thing your house is really tight with no where for air to fuel the fireplace place insert, without the insert it probably was ok now with it, not enough combustion air, this is why they have not come back, not sure what to do, but good for YOU you noticed the browned glass, and not many pick up on that, but it means the pressure from outside down the flue Cheap Jerseys is too much to overcome, but there is a possible temp trick that works

Will : I don't have inserts but I have a blower type fabricated fireplace, on low pressure days , mostly winter of course I cannot get the fire to start up the flue, so what I learned to do, is get some wadded newspaper, start my fire, stuff some wadded paper so it gets going real fast, over the wood, open a door just about 6 inches, and within just a few secs swoosh it overcomes the pressure the flame is off the glass browning it, and all is good, not everytime just sometimes,,,,, it might be your house is too tight or he did not get your fresh air if part of the unit installed correctly, but try my trick of opening the door

Customer : thanks for the imput,i think though that we may not have communicated our problem incorrectly the insert we have has air wash designed to keep the glass clear which it is not doing. manufacturer does not recommend operating unit with door open as it will give the draft control wrong info as to the temp of box area. our home was built in the mid 70's and no insulation or weatherproofing has beenupgraded. the manufacture also does not recommend starting fire with newspaper but firestarter only not even kindling

Will : you are right I took that all wrong, OK let me think this through knowing what I know now

Will : Ok I combined your first with your second so basically you have a new insert with air wash, uses only a particular type of wood and a particular type of starter, no kindling, no operation with the door open, you do all that, the glass still browns up, and you are not getting the heat you think is reasonable, you did CHANGE the wood and starter, from what to what? the installer has not bothered to see an actual fire in the box, and has no intentions of coming back?

Will : I did read this wrong, first I think what could you do to operate this incorrectly? Wrong wood? I thought this was an insert, let me see if I can find this unit, I know some are picky but this seems to be too much, with no service.

Will : I already don't like this I have your manual I will forward to you, sure it is the same as you have but the first thing I notice, in big PRINT 25 YEAR WARRANTY then as you go down the page it slowly starts chopping the warranty to two years for this, one year for that, I know this Intertech from somewhere, there are a couple outfits Intertech and Intertec I have forgotten the spelling, don't run into them that often, but one of them I had troubles with, not sure it is the same place yet but so far I see a huge warranty advertisement and an owner with an install and the installer never fired the unit up, that is nuts, how would he know if there was some kind of drafting problem or pressure problem with the home, that is like fixing a furnace and walking out the door without turning the thermostat to heat and watching what happens, incredible, hang on I am reading this manual

Will : It says right in the manual to use soft paper like newspaper if there is a downdraft,

Will : well I dont know what wood they had you change, the firestarter, think about it, once it gets the solid fuel started who cares, for liability reasons they say a lot of stuff that sounds plain stupid, what were you using for fire starter, that they made you change? I realize there are different brands but past that this adjustment thing where you set it and forget it, the way I am looking at it it looks like a "sub adjustment" for the air intake, in other words there is a possible opening say from 1 to 10, and then the individual depending on his or her preference chooses somewhere from 1 to 10 and locks it in that position, then the insert works by auto sensing the startup giving it full air, for a certain period of time or until a sensed temp is reached, then it drops back to your setting of 7 or whatever you picked by trying several settings, but this seems nuts to me, you would almost have to have your wood cut from one tree, in perfect cuts at exact lengths , and never vary the fuel or the setting you played with would no longer be what you expected, but two things stick out, the HUGE WARRANTY then it trickles down to not much but a one year warranty, then this guy won't come see what is going on?

Will : I would not put up with that, I don't see any contracts for installs, but I cannot imagine they exclude starting a fire and checking for smoke, downdrafts leaks, pops, cracks, as the metal expands and contracts, making sure all is right and well,

Will : Ok you have the right wood now, [how do they know if you have the right wood if they wont come back out?] you describe the wood over the phone and they say oh yea that is the right wood, the other wood was the wrong wood? You say they made you change the wood and starter so how did they know you had the wrong wood and starter? Anyway, I would demand they come out when a fire is rolling in this thing, it only makes sense, your doors are darkening the only thing I can think of is a down draft pushing the flame on the glass, all the way clockwise is the highest air setting, so that would be the largest fire, but the largest fire should not brown the doors, some people need the full open setting or they would not have a full open setting to pick from, see my point?

Will : if you call the installer and explain the doors are browning he says there is nothing wrong, there HAS TO BE SOMETHING WRONG, unless you overload the firebox or burn green wood that was just cut from a fresh tree, is there any control that would allow you to operate it incorrectly, I read the thing three times, they need to come out period

Will : full clockwise is wide open, so with 4 18 inch sticks of dry wood, cranked all the way clockwise is the highest air flow, even at high the door should not brown, so I cannot imagine what is going on, except a downdraft of some kind, can you see the flames licking the glass? Can you hear the blowers operating? I hope you have to try to hear them they should not be annoying, but should be on, I cannot see how you could be messing this up, you might explain how you changed the wood and starter I am curious about that, the answer without a doubt is they owe you a demo in your home with their product you paid for and it should not brown the doors, if you said it just doesn't heat, I might say you are expecting too much but you are telling me the doors are browning and how you could do that is beyond me, its a fireplace, with some sensors that regulate the amount of combustion air, and a blower or two, not that complicated, but it all seems weird to me, this set it and forget thing bothers me,, wood is pretty hard to get a stack that is perfectly exact, so you set your personal setting and if there is any deviation in the wood your setting is effected, very weird to me, my Father had a pellet stove and it took me a while to figure out how to adjust it, but those logs were exact, this is common ole firewood,Will : There is the manual, make sure I am reading the right one, but that is the only Volcano plus I can find, I hate it they wont come help you out, it is getting more and more that way with everything, sorry the first time I just did not read you correctly but I believe I am now, changed wood, did all this stuff, and he is not going to watch a fire burn and answer your questions just terrible, I will write a letter to this intertech or whatever there name is,

Will : I need to explain a little, in my shop we do mostly industrial device repair, large blowers that kind of thing, but lately due to the cost of fuel many people have fired up their wood stoves, some have been sitting for a while and have a blower or two on them, if Wholesale NFL Jerseys the people can find us, we don't advertise for that, just too costly, but word of mouth gets a lot of insert blowers in, the problem the blower is obsolete but their box is fine, so the salesman wants to sell, [especially to older people] an entire new stove or insert because they have no blower or fan to repair a perfectly good box, so they want sometimes $4000 for a hundred dollar fan which is too much if they had it, but anyway, we see what is going on, and repair the blowers for anyone who walks in the door, we might charge $20 bucks or something, the highest ever was $75.00 and all those repairs salvaged thousands of dollars of good boxes, so I have no love for any of these places, they are overpriced, worse than a used car lot

Will : And I tend to believe you before them but because he wont show up, and you have two issues I am betting anything it is a bad install or one of the sensors or controls is bad from the factory or you have a down draft or the fan is blowing in reverse, not a joke I have seen worse, but you cannot have a fireplace where the flames lick the glass, it is first hard to clean as some browning just happens, but mostly it means the fire is wanting to go out the doors, and why when you load new wood do you have to leave the door open a crack? the sensor should know unless it is a timer, but that made no sense , with a high tech control, you have to control the door and combustion air?

Will : You can try to do what I first said, make sure no down drafts, once you know that, and maybe you do but proving it is so simple why not do it again? Now no down drafts, right wood, right starter two sticks, a starter pack, turn it on, with the setting all the way clockwise, then if no smoke of serious flames or browning add one more stick now it should just burn straight up and not near the door but insist he come out, it is like any installer not turning on what they installed, be it a dishwasher or garbage disposal or whatever, no installer puts a device in and leaves without testing it, tell me what else you want me to do
