(CBS) As the NFL season kicks off, new research is coming out that shows that professional football players may be at a higher risk of dying from diseases such as Alzheimer's and ALS.
Kevin Turner spent eight seasons in the NFL. He was involved in plenty of collisions when he played for the New England Patriots and Philadelphia cheap air jordan retro 5 Eagles in the 1990's.

In particular ALS and Alzheimer's were more than three times the risk of the general population," Everett Lehman from the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health.
Recent studies suggest that head injuries on the field may lead cheap air jordan retro 4 to neurological problems.
But the researchers of this study stopped short of drawing that conclusion.

The NFL says it has taken significant steps to address head injuries and protect players.
"We would hope that changes, let's say in the turf and the rules changes, will eventually lead to reduction in concussion," Lehman says.
It's been two years since doctors told Turner he has ALS.
Patients with the disease eventually lose control of the muscles needed to move, speak, eat and breathe.
" I have a little difficulty talking and breathing. Never did I think that my mental or cognitive abilities would be impaired by playing this game," Turner says.
